2018 was the year of loss. My younger daughter lost two babies in early pregnancy, I lost my sister and my Mum, and my health took a dive. I was wrapped in my own blanket of sorrow. But I read the forum every day and there are many on here with far greater troubles than me, and I am sorry that I have taken but not given back.

On our family chat group this New Year my elder daughter quoted:

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering ‘it will be happier’...” Alfred Tennyson.

So that must be my mantra for this year.

Thank you to all the lovely generous-hearted people on this forum who constantly take the time to give hope and courage to us all.

Irene, yes after seeing what you have told us, 2018 certainly was an awful year for you and as I read it, it made me gasp oh no! Thank goodness a new one has now started.

I love the Tennyson quote and wish you peace, happiness and good health from 2019 onwards .

We have these sad years of loss and years that are fallow, without birth, marriage or death within a family. Let's hope that 2019 may be a year of gain for you all with an engagement or a new baby.

I had not realised you had lost your mother. So sorry to hear this. The older one is, the more keenly this can be felt and one has to recall that it is a tragedy if one does not outlive one's parents.

So sorry for all your losses, that must be unbearable at times. Im glad you posted and let us know how you are. Although I dont personally know anyone on this forum, and I live waaay across the pond in Trumpville(😉)... I feel a kindred spirit here. I think we really do care about each other and that is very comforting in this crazy world we share! I hope you take good care and find a reason to smile💜

I think many of us have had what The Queen famously called an Annus horriblious,thankfully we dont usually get too many.

I am afraid that is how it goes sometimes, those years when you keep getting slapped down only to pick yourself up and to repeat the whole process.

Oh dear what a terrible year you've had. A lot of sadness. What an inspiring quote - so apt. Wishing you a very healthy and happy New Year and the very best wishes to your daughter. I hope that she succeeds in having a healthy baby. It's very painful seeing your daughter go through such disappointment. Been there many times.
