Regular forum contributors and missing people.

One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to contribute more to the forum where I can, but like all my resolutions it only lasted a few days before I felt worn out 😰 😂. So I just wanted to say how much I appreciate those of you who respond to posts on a regular basis ... you deserve medals.

I look at the forum every day and notice when people go missing. Like Jean, who was so missed (nice to see she’s been popping back on recently), and now @CDreamer ... are you alright CD? The forum is poorer without your calming, sensitive, sensible and knowledgeable words. I do hope you’re just having a well-deserved rest and that you’ll be back soon.

Love and best wishes to all. Stay safe everyone x

Hilly, what a lovely post - and I agree so much! I haven’t been well enough to be around much on here (or anywhere!) and you faithful people on here are a lifeline for us all, old and new. I realise how much time and effort goes into it and agree you deserve medals! 🏆🏆🏆

Sending love and thanks to all who support, who respond with such faithfulness, kindness and wisdom. And to those who notice the missing 😊💜 Jane x

I so agree Hilly22. I read the posts every day and have been helped by the comments of so many of the regular contributors.

Thank you for your kind words Hilly.

Yes, I too have missed CDreamer's posts on this forum. There is always something new to learn from her extremely informative posts. She always treats each member she responds to as an individual, never just giving out a standard reply.

Just know that we love and miss you CDreamer and hope you will return when you feel able to.

I cant insert the link to her name here to flag our messages up to her, this indicates she may have left our forum.

I just looked her name up under ‘Members’ and can’t find it, that’s very worrying, usually she sends a message if she is taking a break but it’s upsetting for her to leave with no goodbye 💜

Let's all let CDreamer know, through this post, that we miss her. She will then know how valued she is on this forum.

I found some of her replies still with her name on (relief!) but her name is not ‘searchable’, I wonder how she did that?

Sadly, it looks like CD is no longer a member, which is a tremendous loss to the forum. Whatever the reason, it's so sad to lose such a valuable, helpful and calming member of our group. I sincerely hope that all is well. Big hugs CD. xxx

So true what you say Jean x

I’ve just had a message from CDreamer who’s asked me to explain to everyone that she’s not well at present, is having tests, but it’s nothing serious or AF related. Sounds as if she needs to concentrate on getting better for a while ... too right. Think we’ll just have to put up with a CD-shaped hole in the forum for now 😞 xx

Thank you for your perseverance at locating CDreamer. There are so many wonderful people on this forum and then we have the Jose Marinios - the special ones - that have a calming influence and seem so wise. Get well soon CDreamer x

Speaking as someone who tries to contribute on a fairly regular basis, and speaking for myself only, I know that there are times when it can be quite challenging. Obviously, everyone has different reasons for being here, all have different levels of knowledge and experience and different skill levels in their ability to communicate information. There are also those who prefer a more passive role and just glean and hopefully benefit from posts which concern them the most. Regardless of all that, the primary purpose of the forum is to enable everyone to both contribute to and benefit from the membership.

One of the great advantages we have, and I hope this doesn’t sound sexist, is that some, generally female, have a much greater appreciation and understanding of the topics which us men tend to be useless at. Whereas some of the male element (me definitely included) tend to focus on, for want of a better term, more easily defined areas of AF treatment. In my case that’s only possible because over the years, I have attended a considerable number of presentations made by experts in their field. Whilst that is very helpful, I am not medically trained and although I try to take care with what I say and the way I say it, some take issue which is fair enough, but there are times when some seem to want to be mischievous just for the sake of it and that can take its toll.

It is therefore not surprising that there is sometimes a need to take time out as we too have AF, plus all the others issues life throws at us but nine times out of ten, we don’t go far. The main reason for that is we are mindful of just how much the forum helped us when we needed it the most.......

A great post FJ.

Yes, it's interesting how women and men generally reply differently to posts. Men like hard facts given straight e.g. poster says ,

"I feel ill",

answer from man, "See your doctor".

He's solved their problem swiftly and he feels his duty is done. Whereas a woman may reply to the same "I feel ill" question like this.

"Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell. I was the same last week and a call to my doctor really helped. My advice would be to give yours a call. Please let us know how you get on".

Nothing wrong with either response. Men are given a problem and they find the answer swiftly. Women tend to give a little more emotional support in their responses.

I do notice on this forum that men prefer responses from other men and it's them they respond to more, often ignoring the womens replies.

It's life, lets just accept it!

Jean

Unless....(being lighthearted here!)

Five deadly terms used by a woman

1 FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when she knows she is right and you need to shut up!

2 NOTHING: Means something and you need to be worried

3 GO AHEAD: This is a dare, not permission. Don’t do it!

4 WHATEVER: A woman’s’ way of saying screw you!

5 THAT’S OK: She is thinking long and hard on how and when you will pay for your mistake.

Hilly you are absolutely right, lovely post! I notice too when regular contributers go missing. CDreamer is one of the stars; she hasn't been well, and is taking care of herself for the time being and may be back later.

I completely understand about contributing. My problem is that many of the questions are outside my experience. I have never had an ablation, cardioversion and very few problems with drugs either so there is very little I can add to a lot of posts.

That said, all of you who take the time and the trouble to give such detailed, informative replies, you are so valued. I read everything and store the knowledge I gain here in case I might need it in the future. Your post has prompted me to use the 'like' button to show appreciation a bit more!

Sounds temporary, thank goodness ... I’ve heard from our missing star, please see my latest message.

I must say I find the ‘like’ button a very useful way to show my appreciation, especially if I’m short of time xx

As one of if not the only original member of the original yahoo AF Association forum (Mark S is close behind) it is interesting how the forums have developed over the last 13 years. We started with about 9 members and now have thousands spread across the globe.

This has on occasions caused a few problems with trolls and a few argumentative members bent on causing trouble but on the whole has been just what it set out to be, a place to gain knowledge, re-assurance and support especially for newly diaganosed patients.

I note the supposed difference between men and women with anwers although I take issue with the generalities, My wife for example never gives sympathy for anything. merely suggests solutions!

There has always been a hard core of ladies (you know who you are) who have supported us and should be termed volunteers as there were at least six when I started . Seems nobody in charge is annotating such these days. From my point of view these ladies such as CD have been invaluable as whilst I read everypost (make sure there are no problems) knowing that one or other of the regulars has answered does take a lot of pressure off my dyslexic keyboard. lol 😁

Get well soon CD.

It’s been lovely to see so many positive comments showing how very loved our CD is. I hope she gets to read them.

I’m going off line for a while as I’m cooking our Sunday lunch today ... great thing about lockdown ... every day can be Sunday if you want it to be 😊

Hi there. I too am always lurking here. I used to reply to posts a lot but these days there are so many knowledge folk on the forum that often there is nothing of any use for me to say!! However, now I see that it would be a good idea to just say Hi every now and again and so that is my new New Years Resolution. Dreamer, I hope you have a well earned rest and look forward to your return.

Thank you for this post Holly x
