Hi everyone I’m looking for help, I was on 5mg Bisoprolol but now 10mg, I can’t sleep but I’m so tired, seem to be coughing and generally unwell, I wasn’t before I started taking tablets. I also feel like my lungs are full of phlegm does anyone else have this? Thanks in advance for any responses

You shouldn't be feeling like this and I would suggest that you consult your doctor today. Hope you soon get to feel better.

Sandra
Thankyou for responding, I didn’t know if I should call doctor or 111. I’ll wait till surgery opens and see what they say
Hi there! Yes agree was Sandra. You shouldn’t be feeling like that. I too was on 5mg Bisoporol and Flec before. Did not have the same symptoms as you. We may react differently to the meds but yours sounds like you’d better check with your doctors. Hope you get this sorted soon. Take care.
Definitely see your GP as soon as possible. I think this needs a face to face consultation rather than 111
Hi there - that is quite a high dose of Bisoprolol, why was it increased. Biso is known for causing tiredness and also breathing problems. Do you have any breathing issues asthma ect. I was on Biso for four years 5mg, the tiredness was not too bad as long as I took no more than 5mg, over that and I was a zombie. but it did cause breathing problems because I have mild COPD. So eventually I got GP to change to Nebivolol (this is prescribed for anyone with asthma) apparently it does not effect the lungs like Biso. I also feel much more alert and active on Nebivolol. You should make an appointment with your GO or Cardio and discuss with them. Good luck.

Thanks Cassie, yes I have copd also, I’m surprised the cardio consultant didn’t change my meds, I will ring doctor first thing tomorrow, I live in a useless town where receptionists decide if you can see or talk to a doctor so I didn’t get too today, my dose was increased to 10mg as my heart rate wouldn’t drop below 160bpm. I’m waiting on an ultrasound and shock to put heart back in a good rhythm to stop meds.

I wish GP's, cardio's ect would inform us of unwanted side effects when prescribing these drugs and be active in trying another drug. I had a few run ins with my Cardiologist regarding drugs and have had to fight my corner a few times to get things changed. My last check up appointment at the cardiac clinic was last December, I saw a youngish DR. and I asked him to put me on Nebivolol because of the breathing problems - he said nothing and looked up his book of drugs and gave me a prescription. When I got it from the chemist it was for Carvedilol and on the back of the packet was a warning - not to take this medicine if you have a history of wheezing due to asthma or other lung diseases. I did not take them, did he even listen to me, he obviously did not know about the drugs side effects, they should never have been prescribed. My GP eventually prescribed them for me. I hope you get the Bisoprolol changed, if I were you I would stress to your GP that it is causing you breathing problems, ask for Nebivolol as it is given to patients with asthma and lung problems. Some doctors are not aware of it.
