What is the best probiotic to take?

There are so many probiotics on the market that I am not sure which one to take. Also the price can be expensive! Please let me know which probiotic you are taking and do you think they help with Afib?

I personally wouldn't make that decision unless advised by a nutritionist. Dealing with gut issues is quite a complex matter made worse by the fact that treatment plans can vary person to person. In my case they helped with AF, but a sensible nutrition plan also played it's part. To a degree, it is still a work in progress. I was prescribed 'VSL#3' .

I don’t know if my probiotic has ever helped with my a fib but I have heard that it’s best to take a raw one which is one that you would have to keep in the refrigerator. I’m in the USA so I’m not sure that the one I take would be available where you are. You are right, they are very expensive. I use Garden of Life Woman’s Probiotic from Amazon.

Hello Slattery,

I take live liquid probiotics. I feel that it works better and faster as the little dudes are raring to go to battle for you, AND it's cheap. $8.00 American. Brand i use.

I've tried a few different ones. I'm in the UK. I was using them for my digestive problems that turned out to be due mainly to the modern way that bread is made, and I now buy a lot of gluten free stuff as I can't digest wheat things properly. I've had the biopsy test for coeliac, and it came back negative.

I've never really felt any benefit from any of the dry pills type of probiotic, but the yoghurty type drink ones did seem to help a little, and I still take a baked kefir at intervals.

TBH though, watching what I eat and how much has a better effect. I have found that eating stews and casseroles with lots of vegetables and onions in them is the best for my digestive health. Stir fries and fast foods are the worst (but I still indulge, just less often).

I have never linked my AF to food or digestion, mine is not vagal.

There was an experiment of these on "trust me I am a doctor" bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl...

The probiotics did little to the sample people using them but the fermented drink did.
