Bisoprolol. When is best to take it ?
A good question I know that they like you to take Warfarin at night so that after your test they can contact you early to get it changed if to is far out. My sister was told to take statin at Night but she suffered terrible nightmares and had to come off them. I take mine all in the morning except Warfarin.
BTW they took me off Bisoprolol and put me on Sotalol 3 times a day so one was at bedtime but I am back to 2 Sotalol (My fingers went blue)
Hi Poppy - I was told to take my Bisoprolol (2.5mg) first thing in the morning, but my friend who is on the same dosage was told to take 1.25mg in the morning and the other 1.25mg in the evening. So it would appear there is no set time recommendation. The only thing which is necessary is to take the correct dosage at regular intervals. To my mind ( and I am no medic) the logical thing is to take the tablet/s when it suits you best.
Thanks for your post, I am on one 1.25 Bisoporol per day and the dose was suggested to be taken in morning, well...... I missed it and then took it at night, was then worried that it would slow my heart down too much, noted I am on smallest dose, but your post about taking in night and day for some users has reassured me that I will wake up tomorrow morning!
Regards
Mike
Hi Poppystorey,
Good question. I've changed the timing of my dosage over the past few months myself, though I am not on bisoprolol. The most important thing is to take it at the same time of day each day to keep a constant blood level. And also to take it with a full glass of water.
Sometimes if you are taking it with other meds at the same time it can make you even more tired. I have had the experience of what I call "busy dreams" if I take my meds too close to bedtime
What I've started to do is compromise, and take my BP meds at dinner time, around 6:30 pm. That way, I avoid the busy dreams but it still doesn't make me tired throughout the day. Since my BP tends to spike in the evening this really works well, and I've had fewer episodes of AF since doing this since I typically start an episode between sometime after 9 pm.
So do whatever works for you, but do make sure to find a good time and stick with it!
Be well!
Hi SRMGrandma, Thank you for your reply .I take my warfarin at 6pm my bp med and statin at 8pm and bisoprolol at 10pm ,but yes I do have very strange dreams think I could make a film .do you think its the bisoprolol or the statins causing the dreams ? Do take care POPPYSTOREY
Hi Poppy. I must confess that I never have taken bisoprolol but people I know have and they have always found that they suffer least if taken at night. This sometimes results in cold feet in bed but preferable to feeling knackered all the time. Unless a drug has to be taken with or after food or something like that so long as you take at the same time each day how can it matter? I try to take all my meds before dinner but that can be a moveable feast plus or minus an hour or two.

Thank you for your reply Bob ,I feel more at ease having read all the responses to my question .You are all such kind and patient people .Goodness knows you don't seem to be told very much in clinics ,POPPYSTOREY
Doctors like to be superior and keep patients in the dark by using Greek or Latin names for stuff.. This date back to goodness knows when but is really annoying as if you engage with your doctor and can discuss your treatment you are a partner in it not a customer. These forums should hopefully give patients the knowledge to ask at least the right questions. Allied to the valuable fact sheets on the AFA website there is no excuse for anybody to be talked down to or left in the dark. OK I know that doctors only have x minutes per patient but that time should be spent to the patient's benefit. O K I will get off my high horse now.

Thank you Bob your advice is still very valuable I read it all the time. Quite a newbie to AF on Warfarin still quite 😱frightened, 😓 nervous and anxious. I am in a form of sheltered accommodation, I awoke with a fright this am, to the sound of the 🔥 fire alarm. I was sleeping on my left side and my heart ❤was thundering. I decided to write this epistle to you, and now about to have my Wheetabix and prunes. Now Bob and folks comes the big question do I take my 1.25 Bisoprolol tab now or tonight .I also have Warfarin 2mg at 6pm and Gabapentin 2 x 300mg capsules to fit in before bed time , I also worry about drug interaction. Dear Bob and friends , thank you all for 📚 read ing my rant, replys appreciated. A 80yr old neurotic. Cheers Gladie. Xxxx
My heart is now quite calm and quiet I have not taken any Bisoprolol, 3quarter of an hour later. Cheers Gladie. Xx
Hi Poppystorey
I was told to take 5mgs in the morning but I found I got so tired with it that I asked if I could split it and take 2.5mg at 8.00am and 2.5mg at 6.00pm. The doctor seemed to think that morning was best but as far as I'm concerned splitting it has been so much better for me and I'm no longer tired all the time and it works just as effectively.

Due to pseudo-prolapse of the mistral valve I had an episode of taquicardia. The Doctor put me on 2,5mg in the morning and 2,5 mg at night. I Was always feeling tried. One day I forgot to take the night dosage. The next day I didn't feel any side effect, as I usually did. And my heart rate continued to be 75 and my blood presure 11/7. So the next day I continued to do so. And have been doing it for the last 10 days. I'm feeling great. I told my Doctor. He saída that if a lower dosage works. Then I should continue.
I take mine at supper. I might take it at bedtime soon though because sometimes I get a little dizzy. I had atrial flutter badly and have been fighting it for months Bisoprolol isn’t even close to as bad as the amiodarone was. I had an ablation and on Bisoprolol for another 4 months until I know I won’t go into afib/flutter.
