Well it’s 4 weeks today since my abandoned ablation and the discovery of the blood clot in my heart. My cardiologist/EP said the body should dissolve it in about 4 weeks so hopefully it has now gone. I’ve only been able to go for gentle walks lately so hopefully now I can do a bit more. The weather forecast looks good this weekend so I’m looking forward to getting back on my bicycle and into my kayak (but I won’t go far or fast). It’s Father’s Day in Australia on Sunday so we’re going out on the boat Sunday with the kids so that will be fun.
My rescheduled AF & Flutter ablation is in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed that goes without a hitch.

Hi Kaz, it sounds like it's all going well and certainly making the most of life, and enjoying your kayak! Fathers day will be fun too, good luck with the ablation and hope it goes well for you. 🌞 Angie
Sounds like you're doing well now Kaz. I'm envious of you going out in a Kayak and planning to cycle again. Must remind my daughter we need to start doing that again too.
I really hope your ablation goes well this time, will certainly be thinking of you.
I was on Dabigatran but was put back onto Warfarin for the ablation. Personally I think there was a time when I was under anti coagulated and then the clot formed. I was kept on an increased dose of warfarin with an INR of 3.0 - 3.5 whilst clot was absorbed. Then after ablation (my 4th) EP eventually put me on Edoxaban, as he said it was better for clot protection.
Interesting- I was on Rivaroxiban for about 6 weeks before the procedure (which is when I was first diagnosed with AF) and off it for 2 days beforehand. EP believes that was when the clot formed. I was switched to Apixaban but I wasn’t good on that (ended up back in hospital a few days later) so was then put on Dabigatran. Hopefully that’s doing it’s job 🤞🏻Technically I’m wasn’t high risk for a stroke (54 and generally healthy) but because I have 3 different arrhythmias my EP decided he wanted me anticoagulated. I think I’ll be on them for life now.
Hope everything goes well for you. Good luck. I had my ablation postponed March 2017 when they found a clot after doing a T.O.E scan. Had 4 more scans since then, last one on Tuesday, sadly clot still there but has reduced in size so have to wait again. I had been on Warfarin and changed to Edoxiban on 30th Dec 2017.
Gee - that’s a long time. You must feel so frustrated. I know when I woke up from the anaesthetic and they said there was a clot I felt things then got very real. Before that, although the arrhythmias made me feel awful I kept thinking “they won’t kill you”. It didn’t help that I had just heard that an in-law that lives interstate had a stroke after a heart valve operation which was caused by a clot. She is now in a wheelchair and not good. Life changing for her and her husband- they are in their 50s (like me).
I’m off work at the moment so I’m hoping to have things resolved so I can get my life back (or win Lotto so I can live happily ever after as best I can 😉)
