First post ablation walk today

It’s now two weeks since my ablation and I’m feeling pretty good. I have been doing a bit of shopping, cooking and light housework but today was my first walk. It was only 2 1/2 kms and It was slower than my usual pace. It was lovely out by the water. Here’s a pelican I met along the way.

I’ve had a few palpitations, ectopics I think, but they haven’t lasted too long. Hopefully it stays that way and ultimately they go away.

Next week I’m meeting my boss who will be over from Sydney to discuss my return to work in a few weeks (by the time I go back I will have been off work for almost a year). I’m not going back into my original role so we need to negotiate a new position with reduced hours and responsibilities. That should be interesting. And then I need to ensure that I don’t end up working full time hours for part-time money.

A wonderful bird is a Pelican. It's beak can hold more than it's belly can.

Good luck with your work negotiations Karen.

Hey Bob, if you like pelicans you may like this short video. We helped rescue a pelican a year or so ago that had fishing tackle caught around his neck and the hook was in his eye. My husband had been out fishing and we used almost all of his catch keeping the pelican at our place until the seabird rescue volunteer arrived. It was great to see how she caught him.

That sounds wonderful! Progressing along is so great💜

Glad to hear you are making good progress and able to get out.

I hope you are able to negotiate some thing that suits work wise. I work part time and think you're right you do need to monitor your hours. In job if I go over my hours I take it back as time in lieu another time.

I'm two plus weeks post my ablation and doing fine. A bit disappointed to have an hour or so of ectopics yesterday first hiccup as otherwise fine. Will hope there are no more. I'd just texted my line manager to confirm I'd be back to work on Weds🙄.

Stay well

Amanda

It's really good to hear that your on the mend after so long, well done. Whilst I am not as experianced as many here (including yourself) I believe that if you have ectopics or palpitations during the recovery it's best to do a little less to ensure a better recovery. Less haste more speed is the key. Bending, lifting, and tilting forward as well as doing more than I should were always triggers for ectopics/palpitations for me, walking was good. Now 7 weeks post ablation I can do much more, not had any ectopics/palpitations for a week and starting to build up to my old self slowing. Remember recovery takes longer than you expect, do not get anxious about work, you do what you think you can, the last thing you want now is to overdo things and revert back to the bad old days.

Thanks. I’m not planning on going back to work until after I’ve seen my EP in 3 weeks. My trip to the city (to my office) will be interesting with trains and stairs, etc

I had a cuppa with a friend the other day who now works as a coach with executives from around the world. She helped clarify my thoughts for the discussion and having boundaries was was of the key points.

Great you ate doing well Kaz and how nice it is after the two week enforced incarceration to get out.......don’t over do stuff though......I was la king energy one day, leaded legs and still did my round the block morzine walk and then I was feeling weirdly breathless for a good day and night.....thought I’d blown it but was fine after....so now I’m prepared.....I’m three months now....seemed to have done ok but a loved one has died and the upsets seem to have made my heart go a bit wobbly but nit afib and I’ve a rotten cold, so I’m hoping these blip blob hearty jumps occasionally are natural under circumstances......so starting work again less hours sounds good.....phew a big step into the world again eh.....good !.....I’ve booked flights to cairns september.....hope this heart agrees with me it’s a good move!

Thanks Sue. Sorry to hear about your loss. Stress is awful. We have a couple of friends with end stage cancer at the moment so I’m expecting a bit of stress in the next few months but I’ll make sure I take good care of myself.

Yes it’s trying to do damage limitation with stress isn’t it but you can’t help crying with deaths sadness can you, we are having to drive all the way to U.K. for funeral as we’ve the dog, but in a way I’m looking forward to going to England as we’ve only been in England twice in the 6 years since we left.....and one of those times I got pneumonia so wasn’t the social whirl of seeing everyone I’d planned!

Hope you get the results you want with work and seeing the boss

Hi Kaz,

Nice to hear that you’re doing fine and recover well 👍.

Hope that your work negotiations will work out fine, it’s already a good sign that your boss is willing to talk about another job more fitting for you.

It’s the best option to change your working habits and work less, even when you have a full recovery. I think we have to be humble and know that we cannot play with our newly won health. If my procedure goes well and I recover, I have sworn myself I won’t be stepping in the same trap of living to work instead of working to live. But the thing is we could forget it, if we’re feeling fine and that’s the tricky part. So I wish you a successful result!
