The above has had quite a bit of negative press coverage over the last couple of days, culminating in two consultants being suspended on charges of whistleblowing. (according to today’s Times). There are a number of us on this website who are with cardiologists at this hospital and I was wondering if anyone has any further insight or views on the issues raised.

Yes, I was thinking of you as I was writing. Knew you were in the pipeline for a second go.

I had an ablation by Dr Behr at St Georges end of March and I guess this dispute has been going on for some time, but I can honestly say that I did not notice anything amiss

That's good to know Tapanac, I'm confident that everything will be OK.....but I'm still crossing my fingers!!

Hi peddling. The ablation was fine and dr behr very kind and I believe "talented" in his field.

I had been on flecainide since December after being taken into hospital at least 11 times with tachycardic arrhythmia Afib (230-240 bpm). This worked well and I had no incidents with this tablet. Then the ablation in March. When I went for my checkup early July I was told that they couldn't tell from the heart halter monitor whether the ablation had worked as I was still on the flecainide. I did keep saying this to anyone whomwojld listen... ....

Anyway I stopped the flecainide. The registrars said I could come off it immediately or wean off it. I weaned off it and now I have almost permanent palpitations and missed beats. Thankfully not the prolonged tachycardia etc, but distressing enough.

My GP wrote to dr behr and I have to have another halter on, but this is the daft thing, they said I could go back on the flecainide!!!!!

Conundrum in view of the monitor/flecainide above. So in answer to your question......I don't know if the ablation has worked

I would say the hardest part of having the ablation was having to keep still for nearly 3half hours, but no problems and definitely not too uncomfortable so good luck Flapjack.

Hi flapjack. Getting closer to your ablation. Will you let me know how you get on and in particular with dr behr. He must be back from his holidays then. Good luck for a complete success

in reply toTapanac

I expect to post a progress report either Sunday or Monday week after the ablation Tapanac but some confusion methinks, my EP is Dr Gallagher. Many thanks for your kind wishes, I’ve not met Dr Behr, but have heard good things said so I’m sure you will ALSO be well looked after...👍

Oh sorry flapjack. I read so many posts on here and I thought you said dr mark Gallagher was performing your ablation and I just locked on to the "Mark"

Again...good luck

Hi Flapjack,

You often respond to my posts, and I thought your AFib was under control. Wishing you the best of luck with your ablation, and hope the outcome of the Doctor dilemma and the procedure will be positive. 😀

in reply toF-M-C-MM

Thank you for your kind wishes.

I had a cryoablation back in July 16 but I believe there was some difficulty in isolating one of the pulmonary veins. AF started to break through last October and in December my EP suggested a second attempt. As you may have seen from previous posts, I was more than a little undecided at first, but I think I’ve had around 6 episodes now and I just want to get it over and done with. All the best, John

Just curious why you didn't opt for a radiofrequency ablation which gives the EP more scope to tackle stubborn areas where the A Fib persists. It can be tricky around the Pulmonary vein as there is the risk of stenosis.

in reply toF-M-C-MM

It's not uncommon for EP's to suggest a cryoablation first as this procedure can isolate the veins relatively quickly at marginally less risk, but if the structure of the vein has any abnormalities it can be difficult for the balloon to do it's stuff which is why any "touch up" procedures are done using radio frequency. I didn't opt for a cryoablation, it was what was recommended by a cardiologist and the EP who performed the procedure.

Who is you doing your ablation flapjack?

I went to a talk he did about ablation Epsom Hospital he was very knowledge, I was very impressed.

Oh wow hello. Will that group be meeting again I found it really nice to meet others with AF but haven't seen any other events or meetings.

Small world 🤣

The Surrey Arrhythmia Support Group (Surrey ASG) meets on the first Wednesday of every month, excluding July and August at Epsom Hospital. RosyG, who frequently contributes to this forum, is the Patient Lead and she was instrumental in setting up the group just over three years ago. We always have a main speaker who is medically qualified in their field, but there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions and chat with with other members of the group. RosyG emails details of the meeting to everyone who has previously attended and left their email address. She generally posts details on the forum and very often, the Arrhythmia Association post details too. Hope this helps, and hope you can make it to the September meeting.......

in reply to

Aarrr yes that makes sense why I haven't heard during July and August. Great I'll look forward to seeing you all in September. Thank you flapjack.

Suzanne 😊

Is Mark one of dr Behr's registrars???? I remember a mark from when I had mine. He was very kind

in reply toTapanac

I don’t think Dr Gallagher is a registrar. There is a video on YouTube worth watching. If the link below doesn’t work, search for BHF ablation and it’s normally top of the list.

Thank you

I had my first appointment there on Friday with Dr Sharma he was amazing and I'm to have an ablation. I felt very unnerved when I first read about the problems but I guess you have to trust it will be OK.

in reply to

Hope all goes well....make sure you follow the recommendations featured in the pinned posts, top right of this page as it will make you aware of things the hospital might not have told you regarding the recovery process...….

Will do flapjack and good luck to you too. 😊
