I’m wondering if someone can help on here. My daughter is 19 and has suffered with palpitations and racing heart for years but it was put down to anxiety finally she had an ecg yesterday and their not happen. Normal sinus rhythm but beating quite fast and her st-t wave was quite abnormal!? We are waiting for blood test results and then taking it from there. Does anyone know anything about this?

they should be able to tell what the problem is from her ECG- maybe get another opinion

It wouldn't be right for us to be guessing. The important thing is that they are investigating. Unfortunately it is quite common for palpitations in young women to be put down to anxiety.

So I'm glad it is being looked into. If it was a GP surgery it would be worth asking if they are referring your daughter for a cardiology opinion.

A single ECG doesn't always give a complete answer.

Sorry but not being medically trained I am unable to help you. Hopefully her doctor will recommend her being seen by a heart consultant so she can be screened fully.

Good luck

ECG's are a diagnostic aid and can't always be interpreted in isolation. Given your daughters history I would be asking for a cardiology or EP referral. She may need electrophysiology studies to determine the exact cause of the ECG abnormality

Hopefully they will investigate for an overactive thyroid. Has she lost weight? Those symptoms can be due to the thyroid too. Such a shame that one so young has the heart problem

She can eat and eat and still either stay the same or lose weight so I am wondering if it’s thyroid were waiting for the bloods to come back x

I hope it is that rather than an early heart problem. It is a nasty thing to have an overactive thyroid. People tend to be very jumpy ..women have very irregular periods too. It will be very interesting to see the blood results for you. Poor young woman
