The side effects are scary. I want to lower to 2.5 mg. Daily.

I have been taking amlodopine (10mg) for quite a few years and they have apparently controled my high bp to an acceptable level. They do or can have adverse side effects, one of which for me means i have several pairs of shoes and boots i can not wear because of swollen ankles.

A few weeks ago my gp suggested i temporarily stop taking the tablets to see if they were responsible for causing another apparent side effect. After two weeks it appears the tablets were innocent but it was noted that my blood pressure remaind at the previously controlled level

Sorry wasnt finished.

So now i will receive a 24 hour bp monitor to establish if it is possible to remain off the amlodopine. I do also take bisoprolol which ‘may’ be healping to keep my bp low.

Can't take that because my ankles swell so badly .

I tried it and swelled up all over, most uncomfortable. Changed to Felodipine

Hi Janith , I used to take amlodipine had terrible side effects - violent dreams, swollen ankles and burning hot face, I was changed to lercanidipine and have no problems now

I'm on 10mg and have awful side effects but I'm so scared of having another stroke that I just put up and shut up unfortunately 😕

On 10mg my whole legs turned red and itchy. Reduced to 5.0 no ill effects but slight ankle swelling which I put down to hot weather.

Hi Janith,

I have been taking Amlodipine (Norvasc for the past 2 years.

I have reduced my dose to 2.5 OD.

No side effects and BP is in the low range 110/70 p=65.

It is relatively safe and effective drug.

Why did you reduce your dose? Did your blood pressure range change in any way with the reduction?

I took amlodipine briefly, but stopped b/c I thought it was making my heart race - this was before my AF diagnosis. I looked up the manufacturer's Patient Information for Norvasc (Pfizer) possible side effects. Heart arrhythmia and palpitations are listed. Swelling is the first one, the heart ones are the 6th and 7th listed.

Hi Janith,

I reduced my dose of Bisoprolol to 2.5Mg,because I was getting tired and a lack of energy through out the day.

I am feeling much better now.

My BP is good at 110/71 pulse 65to 69.

This is a life saver drug,so the side effects are worth the benefits.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

God luck and don't be afraid of the 5Mg dose.

Side effects will occur with ALL dosages. It doesn't matter what the strength is.
