Ferritin levels and AF

Has anyone looked into their Ferritin level? I did so partly to do with reading a high level could encourage (as I believe the cause is more than one issue) AF and partly as on a roll to improve my health overall.

Well it turns out my level is 275 and my Naturopath wants that halved ("rusts my body & can cause other issues") and advises me the only way to do this is to give some blood to the NHS bank in the normal way. So my real question is has anyone any info on giving blood & triggering AF or causing other issues nb I am 64, male, my BP is quite low around 117/65 & I'm only on Flecainide? Any replies much appreciated.

Heamachromatosis-- (? spelling) is know to be a possible cause of AF as the iron binds with all organs and limits functionality . Have you been tested for this disease?.

Thanks Bob GP appointment made; my score of 285 is within one quoted range of 60-400, so hope it is not a pressing issue but rather a useful early warning sign!?

Hi my AFib was triggered by severe iron overload in heart - ferritin levels in 1000’s. Managed to get back down to normal levels with chelation meds. Ferritin levels gradually increasing but Docs happy to leave untreated until they reach around 500 and this time they’ll treat by taking blood out. I’d be wary about lowering levels too much as I felt v weak and drained when level got low

It’s a shame excess ferritin can’t be shared 😂 it has taken 10 months to get mine from 12 to 17! Ferritin seems problematic either at too low or too high levels! I hope you manage to lower yours okay 🙂

My Naturopath added as a male in his 60's with raised Ferritin levels, I should consider having a PSA test. Personally, I doubt I will due to the false alarms it can produce, although I will discuss with GP.

Hi. I’m a 54 year old male with af diagnosed about xmas 2016 had 1 cardioversion which held it in sr for six months I currently am on 5mg bisoprolol and 150 mg x3 arythmol daily. During that time I was feeling very fatigued pain in my legs out of breath and general tiredness all the time the doctor thought I was low on iron and sent a blood sample off when it came back my ferritin level was 1080 and I was diagnosed with hemochromatos being Irish it’s also known as the “Irish curse” am going through venesections were they are taking one pint of blood every two weeks from me my correct ferritin levels are at 800 and the doctor wants them down to 50 my mother and father gave me the gene c282y?? With means my body stores to much ferritin in my organs and blood letting takes the execces away! Currently I’m improving with every blood release and joint pain is easing considerably. If you are from a Celtic background eg. Welsh. North of England Scotland Irish Northern European and Australian American and have these kind of family trees might be worth checking your ferritin levels out google the Celtic Curse for more info! Ps. I definitely think it is playing a part in my af!! 🇮🇪☘️

Thanks 32, that is useful to know. Your joint pain comment is interesting, not sure I have that but I get quite stiff if stationary for a while (e.g. watching TV) as if I am rusting up with what may be too much iron for me.
