Fleconaide

Hello, I was diagnosed Rapid Afib in Jan, ans eventually commenced on Bisoporol 1.25mg daily and Fleconaide 50 mg bd,, also take anticoagulants and Candasartan. Seemed okay apart from the odd fast run of even pulse in the evening which went as soon as I took my designated Fleconaide. But for last three days have experienced episodes of irregular pulse rate (not fast) in morning about three hours after taking Fleconaide and yesterday went on its own and today am experiencing same symptoms. I also have indigestion type pain in chest(not bad) feels hot on left side.iI am reluctant to take extra Flec although in the past when I was having fast runs my cardiologist suggested it! About every 5th beat is irregular, just wondering if could be caused by Fleconaide and if anyone has experienced this? Many thanks.

Flecainide can introduce some ectopics and other arrhythmias I think but so long as it is keeping the AF down try to stay with it. 50 mg is a very small dose of Flecainide to be honest.

Thank you , I have just taken 25mg (half) to be honest to see if it will make a difference, my BP is 196 over 98 have got worked up I think. So very disappointed as I thought I was stabilised, for a bit! Me and my husband have both been diagnosed this very unpredictable condition within the last 6 months!after both being fit non drinkers non smokers, still working ,in our late sixty's it has come as a bit of a shock! So thank you for taking time out to answer me.

You should be discussing this with your doctors. Flecainide can cause serious arrhythmias.

That amount of Flecainide 25mg won't do a lot for you. Most of us on here take 100mg twice daily. I'd keep to your 2 x 50mg if that's what you were prescribed. Why not ring the department that recommended the Flecainide and ask their advice.

I can bring my BP down by doing deep breathing for a few minutes, others can too - give it a try.

Best wishes

Jean

Hi there, I take 100 mg flecanide morning and night and 1 bisoprol 50mg, blood thinner omeprazole and antivistatin I have not had a turn since November. I would take the full flecanide as told to. Apart from getting out of breath when walking I have not felt this well in 5years. I have totally stopped eating red meat and do not drink alcohol any more. I try to do a heart healthy diet. So all being well hopefully.

Thanks for reply , did go to Gp this afternoon, to be honest he didn't seem over bothered , just said its okay to take extra Fleconaide but i was concerned that the rhythm has changed to what it was when first diagnosed and is still irregular after taking extra.

I've been taking 2x50mg flecainide for 10yrs since my first and only AF episode. The ectopics and irregular beat occur almost daily and seems that it's something I have to live with now. It's definitely better than Afib.

Hi, thank you for your reply, so do you reckon that this is a side effect of Fleconaide?

I wouldn't think so as my irregular heart beat was discovered before being put in flecainide, also ectopics are a symptom if AF .

Might want to talk to your EP about upping your Flec dose on a trial basis. . For me, using a higher 100 mg X 2 mostly eliminates the ectopics and irregular beats while also keeping the AFIB away. But, everyone reacts differently.

Thanks I'm seeing him in a couple of weeks and think I should ask him, hadn't even thought if it. 😀

Not sure if your user name refers to your wish for a u iform heart rate or your background but as a terrible generalisation people whose career required a uniform ( and that includes nurses like me) struggle with the perceived lack of control that any medical condition brings!!

Used to planning for what ifs when working, it's difficult not to fight the condition and the doubts and uncertainties it brings. I try to accept that it's part of who I am but still dislike things like "Is it the meds or the AF".

Hope the event monitor gives some clarity for you.

Many thanks for your reply and yes I have worn a uniform all my working life being a nurse since the sixties. Never having taken any sort of medication and I mean even a headache tablet i have struggled to get to grips with all of this i am ashamed to say. But I have found this forum very helpful and informative, and as for the uniform just couldn't think of anything else to put.

Me too. Started training October '62. I have paroxysmal Af well controlled with flecainide 50mg twice a day and on Apixaban. Husband permanent asymptomatic AF on a shed load of drugs - he never gives any of his probs a second thought till we start getting the holiday insurance sorted!!

My husband also has it and just gets on with life! Wish I could be more like him, this has all been so recent for both of us, but he appears to haven accepted it better than I have.

Whoever prescribed flecanaide for you is the person to contact.I assume it was a cardiologist or EP, you might have been given a contact number for an arrhythmia nurse as well? If not,try calling the cardiologist/EP secretary and ask for an opinion.

Everyone is right here, flecanaide can cause difficulties as well as advantages.

GPs in my experience are not always as well versed in AF as we would hope for!

Take the dose advised until you hear otherwise from your consultant I would suggest.

Best wishes

Many thanks for replying, I will make an appointment to see Cardiologist for results of Event Monitor and clarify matters regarding Fleconaide. It does seem to have kept the Afib at bay so far,

best wishes.
