Have any of you had any problems with having the novacaine at the dentist with epinephrine? Prior to getting diagnosed with afib, I had cavities filled and after the shot, my blood pressure and heart went up. The dentist at the time thought it was due to it accidently getting in a blood vessel. Now I wonder if it is from afib?
What do you do when you need dental work?

Most of us AFers ask for non adrenaline injections as they often trigger AF. The non type are less effective dentists claim but can be made to work OK.
agreed always ask for it and I have had implants so it the non adrenaline stuff must have worked fine.
I'm the same as Pete. Many years ago I had an adrenaline injection and the procedure had to be aborted as it sent my heart rate all over the place. The adrenaline free injections I have now are every bit as effective.
I always ask for adrenaline free dental injections too. A few years ago I had to have nasal packing with adrenaline anaesthetic to treat a severe nosebleed. My heart went into a prolonged bout of tachycardia but no AF, thankfully. It is not something I would risk again willingly.
Don’t be put off by advice that adrenaline free isn’t so effective because the adrenaline holds the anaesthetic in the tissues - and helps to control bleeding. I had a large back tooth taken out - I felt nothing and had minimal bleeding (even with Apixaban).
I also had a very bad experience after local anaesthetic - thankfully my dentist just took one look at me and realised exactly what happened and made me call a friend to come help me. It was all very inconvenient as I had moved and travelled 200 miles to return to complete treatment. It was several days before I felt OK again.
PS - if your dentist has taken a medical history and knows you have AF then they should be aware of that people with AF should avoid adrenaline in local anaesthetics.
If they didn’t take a history - why not?
Either way sounds like a lack of competence.
My dentist makes me sign a declaration every time I go in to say that nothing has changed since my last appointment health and medication wise.
