Hello

I had a colonoscopy about 3 years ago. I had it done under sedation. No AF issues.

I did have to come off Warfarin for a week before. I was given another Anticoagulation drug I had to inject into my tummy myself during this period.

I am having a Colonoscopy on Tuesday, I have not been told to stop wafarin, but will have my INR done before the procedure. Hoping i won't go into AF, I will take an extra 50 of Flec. Pam

None at all, I stopped taking my noac 2 days before.

I was worried to death about going in to AF from the stress of it all, but the guy carrying out the procedure was very calming. He suggested that I tried without sedation and he could administer it at any time I requested.

The procedure took about half an hour iirc , no pain, just the odd bit of discomfort when he had to change direction or move things out of the way.

Quite interesting to see my insides on screen.

Worst bit was the day before, having to try and drink all that bowl prep ,😱

Oh, I don't think I was clear, I didn't have sedation and was able to get dressed and leave straight away.

Yes.

The rigour of the bowel prep may precipitate AF. There may be electrolyte changes, which could do the same.

Possibly a small increase in stroke risk if AC stopped. Suggest consult cardio first about precautionary measures.

Hi Di1962

I had a colonoscopy nearly 3 years ago.I was very worried about stopping my Apixaban as I had had a stroke just 6 months previously. How ever I was not told to stop it and the procedure was fine. As I did not want to have a sedative I was allowed to get dressed and go home after having a cup of tea and biscuit!

I agree the preparation is the worst part

Good Luck.

I had a virtual colonoscopy (filled with gas and had a CT scan). Because I had previously had AF, I could not have a sedative (might trigger the AF). Slightly uncomfortable but not a real problem. I was on warfarin INR 2.0 throughout.
