Amiodarone again.
I was put on amiodrone when they said flecanide was causing my flutter, it started on a 23 hour IV infusion to get my rate manageable to go home, then oral increased over a few weeks to a regular dose. I didn't stop it until the week before my flutter ablation, and then when I'd had that I was started on fecanide again.
My cardio consultant said that if he had his way he would never use Amiodarone! I was put on an Am drip last time I was in hospital (for AF but not an ablation) and had to have it removed as an emergency. A relative spent two years on Am and suffers permanently damaged lungs.
Have said that, it works for some people!
Try Dofetilide, you need to be in the hospital to get the loading dose because of possibility of ventricular arrhythmias, but long term it has minimal side effects I was on amirodorone initially but couldn't toler ate it.After Dofetilide I have been in NSR without sideefects.
I only had an intravenous shot of amioderone once when the cardioversion after the ablation failed to put me back into AF. I have been told that because of my propensity for breathlessness it should never be prescribed for me.
Is there any possibility of getting another EP? This drug is not doing you any favours!
I had my ablation without amdiodarione it was a success ,been on amdiodarione 6months previous but had to come off of it due to side affects
I took amiodarone for about three months. It did cure my AF in the sense that I no longer have symptoms that I can feel. But at the same time it caused serious side effects. lung disease and eye problems. I have recovered from these problems, so in a way it was worth taking the drug. I think the main thing is not to take it longer than three months because the long term side effects (over 6months) of this drug can be fatal sometimes.
I am taking amiodarone and have noticed a blue halo when looking at car headlights at night. I do have mineral deposits. My question is, "how long did it take for your eye problems to recover?
