Extended period of not being well on AF meds

I have been on tambocor slow release (200 mg from April to June, 100mg since June), a beta blocker and xarelto (anti coag, i think the common name is Rivaroxaban).

I have had this low grade fever/virus for a few months that won't go away. I often think it is gone and then go out and exercise and within a few days I will feel feverish. But if i rest for a few days it becomes so mild i am not sure if its there or not.

I am taking magnesium and co-enzyme Q10 - which deals with the side effects of the meds (i don't feel palpitations and anxiety thanks to these). I think this virus is not related to the size effects I take the magnesium to address.

I eat healthily. I live in a clean environment (Cape Town). I drink a little bit of booze (but not enough to make me sick...I promise).

Any advice, please?!

Hi Jonathan

I wonder if it would be worthwhile having a blood test to check if you are lacking any vitamins or minerals, e.g. Vit D, B12, folate, ferritin and if you have raised antibodies, so many of us lack some of these. It's something I'm going to be testing after watching an inspirational video on how to get yourself well by a US doctor. Also try and eat a good range of different coloured fruit and veg and cut out sugar and any artificial additives.

I'd have a chat with your doctor and let him know about your continued low grade infections and ask for tests.

Best wishes

Jean

Rivaroxaban made me feel awful, very flu like and no energy. GP tried to blame it on everything and anything else. Thankfully I had an excellent EP that actually listened . I stopped the rivoroxaban for 10 days under his supervision, all side effects vanished. I was then put on edoxaban which suited me much much better

Hi Jonathon - do you think it is the meds causing this, or maybe something else? I have been taking the same type of AF meds for a year now - beta blocker, Flecainaide, Rivaroxaban - and this year, I seem to have been constantly either fighting a virus or else struggling with fatigue recovering from a virus - if there is a bug going around you can pretty well guarantee I will go down with it. Currently just returning to work after really bad chest and lung infection - and I still feel like I haven't completely got rid of it, like it is just lurking in my body waiting for the next infection to take hold.

So I am thinking that it might be my immune system is impaired - and possibly the medication contributes to this (plus antibiotics for infections) - I have made a routine appointment with my GP to ask for some blood tests - as I see Jeanjeanie has advised already to see if anything needs a boost. I agree this is the way to go - not expecting to get much response from my GP so may need to look at alternatives.

Wishing you all the best - if I find anything that works I will post it here!

Be well

Liz

Thanks for all the feedback. Liz my experience is almost identical to yours, except I am fortunately not picking up other bugs.

Mike has got me thinking. I have been on different types of flecainide since September 2015, but only on xarelto since December 2016 and perhaps the xarelto is causing the problems.

Worth checking out - i take this too and I know Apixaban is one alternative so maybe worth seeing if changing to this will help. I am seeing my EP early December and am going to discuss with him then. My GP worse than useless!🙁
