Just thought I should let you know its been just over 12 months since my ablation, due to Diet Exercise and finally an Ablation of the 4 veins, I have been palpitation free during this period. I even went on a cruise with no problems. I am no longer on any medication, but still continue the modified fodmap diet and exercise. Thankyou so much to everyone for your help during the past 4-5 years and I hope this continues on for me. I am at present no longer taking any heart medication.

Success at last
Really great to have a positive response. Proves it does work for some of us. Well done. Still far too many successes who fade from the scene and make it look like ablation is not a good way to go.
Excellent news, well done. Enjoy your freedom. X
Good to hear of success story.
These are not uncommon but most of the successful people either never look for our forum or if they have been a member and have had a successful procedure they do not have such an interest in reading a forum about AF issues.
Best wishes
Pete
Good news. How much exercise do you take? Do you follow a regular pattern? Have a fitbit or similar? 10,000 steps a day? Do you eat sugar or avoid certain foods? Any lactose intolerance? Within you BMI? Sorry to appear nosey but I am trying to get a handle on this and it is a bit like trying to grab a jelly.
Thanks
Ian
I love the jelly!!!!
I love Jelly too, that was ok for me.
If you look up the FODMAP DIET you can work out with elimination what is not good for you. I had IBS along with the Heart Arrhythmia which incidentally came on approx 3 months after the diagnosis of Arrhythmia. It is basically Gluten Free, and different types of sugars eg. I could eat strawberries but not pineapple, we are all different so you need to work out your individual choice, best to go to a Dietitian or a Nutritionist if you can or its free on the internet.
Basic things like Chocolate or Coffee or too much wine, usually effects everyone with AF. Since the surgery my tolerance seems to have changed for the better, but I will be going to a Nutritionist soon to see what I can tolerate now.
Exercises were done every day for around 15 to 30 mins. It included walking, and other ones I have learned over the last 4 years, such as Tai Chi.
No strenuous exercise, but enough to loose some weight, and to help with my flexibility.
Hi Ultramarine was the ablation carried out for ectopics or do u have afib, I have had 2 ablations this year due to thousands of ectopics daily but am due for a third, had limited success with the fodmap diet! can I ask where you had your procedure done and can you recommend your EP? sounds like you have had a great success!
Hi Greg in Australia, so it depends on where you live. I had a great number of palpitations both types of Arrhythmia SVT/AF so it was quite intense before I got the ablation, the Fodmap diet still needed fine tuning, so it was really trial and error in my case Modified as I went along. The reason I put this forward, was to make the point of the connection from the stomach to the heart.
Hi ultramarine well done , it's good to read positive experiences .
I hope you continue to stay well...
Very interested to read your post. I'm 72, male in Sydney, and was diagnosed with PAF over 3 years ago symptoms lasted a couple of days. Under an enlightened cardiologist, I stopped alcohol, became a 'pescatarian', exercised more often; hydrate well; improved my sleep, reached an ideal BMI. I tried a pill in the pocket which usually helped. I worked out some of the triggers which may combine. Digestion and stress are certainly in there, but genetics and anxiety may be against me. I went for months in 2021 without AF but then a couple of more, and recently over 2-weeks of AF which moved me into the persistent category. My the cardio has sent me to a professor - an expert in catheter ablation e al. It seems an appropriate time to go this next step. He was upfront about a possible success rate between 50-60%. It sounds like I'm having a 4-vein PMI cryoblation like yourself, so I am heartened. It's so helpful to be able to share stories
I was in my 70's with persistent SVT, which was is a complex condition of AF. I had tried a diet and exercise for a year or so, but eventually realized an ablation would need to be done, the surgeon also did not give me a 100% sucess rate but I went ahead and have not looked back. My diet and exercise was part of my success story. I do not need to take any medication except Eliquis which I thought was a necessary due to my age. I get an occasional missed beat but thats it. The Ablation w as done in 2016 so I am very happy with the result, I did get put back on Metropolol after the operation, but only a small amount, eventually gave this up too I have kept up my eating plan but have an occasional chocolate and an occasional glass of wine. It was an exercise in decreasing my anxiety level using meditation and various other techniques, I am so glad I had the operation, I was told it could last 5 years, but it has been 6 years now, with nothing untoward happening. I wish you good luck for your operation.
