Ramipril

I went into AF July 17 and had a cardioversion Jan 18, after which I stopped all meds but Apixaban. After recent breathlessness I've been prescribed Bisoprolol 5mg then saw a cardiologist who wasn't exactly a communicator. He's scheduled me for another cardioversion but meanwhile has prescribed Ramipril 2.5mg. First dose yesterday. Not nice! I have more of a heart failure problem than a high blood pressure problem and Ramipril seems to be for the latter. Any comments, please?

Hi there - I have permanent AF and heart failure but not really any blood pressure problems. I am on Ramipril 5mg this is for the HF, I am told that it helps to make the heart pump more efficiently. For the AF I am on Nebivolol (was on Bisoprolol) and Diltiazem and an anticoagulant. What side effects have you had - I seem to be fine on them, been on Ramipril for 5 years.

I was taking Ramipril for about a year and developed a cough, I was told that it was a common side effect.

I have changed to Candesartan another blood pressure tablet and I am much better now.

A study on BMJ showed that Ramipril is a bad choice for any person with a family history of lung cancer , it is far safer to be on Candesartan .

In this population based cohort study, the use of ACEIs was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. The association was particularly elevated among people using ACEIs for more than five years.

Dear Pete. Thanks for your response. I'll watch for a cough or any side other side effects. Anyway, days two and three seem more comfortable. Mark (aka Chips Viccars).

I don't have heart failure. I do have Ramipril 10mg for high blood pressure.

My husband takes Ramipril for high blood pressure - he does not have any heart problems. My son also took Ramipril for high blood pressure but developed a cough so was put on a different medication.
