Hi everybody, I am listed for a coronary bypass after an angiogram which showed three diseased vessels. Is bypass the right option and whats the benefit risks ratio? I have had stens inserted before in 2010.

Coronary artery bypass
Hiya. This forum is for atrial fibrilation people. Have you AF. ? Otherwise best to check out other Cardiac forums here on healthunlocked.

I think you may be asking this in the wrong place as it is outside our field of expertise. A few of us may have issues with the heart's plumbing, but we have atrial fibrillation which is an electrical problem.
As others have said this is not the right place to ask that question both because we are not medically trained and because we deal with atrial fibrillation on this forum. That said if you want my personal opinion it is that since the existing stents have not prevented a further deterioration in your condition then angioplasty is the natural progression. Further stents would doubtless be pointless. Usual caveat not medically trained and personal opinion only.
Thanks guys for your advices, I will check and post to the correct forum.
My dad before he passed from copd hd a ton of stents. One after another. But depending on age and other factors bypass may be a logical next step. But as said better forums for that as even I have afib.
It is now basically an everyday operation.
Ask them to remove your left atrial appendage at the same time as that is where blood clots form if you already have or develop AF after the operation as many do.
I wish that I had known that at the time. When speaking to the theatre "Sister" when I had an Amplatzer amulet fitted recently to close my LAA he said that he had arranged for that when his father was going for his bypass soon.
Be sure to check the alternative view. There is a minority, but well reasoned case for saying that bypass surgery is rarely needed.
1. The risks of the surgery are greater than the risk being prevented
2. The heart naturally grows its own new blood vessels.
Sorry, I am on holiday, and I do not have the references easily available.
I was so convinced by the evidence I saw that I would refuse such surgery, and would advise family and friends the same.
Thanks ILowe for the advise
