Hi all.im still awaiting a definite diagnosis , cardio suspects coronary spasms, and a fib and a flutters been captured on alive cor. Im onn tildiem chanel blocker,to help prevent life threatening spasms, but im aware this med can trigger a fib. Has anyone here any experience of this. I also have lits of near fainting ,short episodes, which only started after taking the chanel blockers. Complex,as cardio says the lightheadedness could be caused by spasms. Id appreciate any input, thankyou.

A fib triggering coronary spasm
Where did you hear that Tildiem (Diltiazem) triggers AF? I've never heard of that, except that it slows your HR which can set AF off if too low. Maybe your dose is too high? I've had possible artery spasms but just taking Diltiazem, too much and my heart pauses causing faintness.
That's interesting to know - I wasn't aware that a slow HR can cause af. I was advised by cardiologist to take (slow release 300mg) Diltiazam) at night. I found taking it in the morning with Digoxin made me feel quite poorly but, on it's own is ok. Thank you for the information
Wow, that's quite a lot. What is your resting HR - just interested. I was given digoxin once to slow my HR when it was going up to 168 which was a bit too high for me to take but my normal resting HR is low enough 60/70 so it wasn't continued.
Over the last month & since last cardioversion the lowest my resting hr has been is 78. I am on the lowest dose Digoxin but told as its low I can add the 1.25mg tablet if needed. Trouble is I had a heavy feeling & very odd beats on the higher dose. Diltiazam has gradually had to be increased (from 180pmg originally)
Kardia, heart education page, arrythmia library,, a fib, as part of sick sinus syndrome, can, and usually is, accentuated by meds. Calcium chanel blockers being one of those meds.
Aha, it's the SSS aspect that affects it. I have mild SSS so not allowed more than a minimum dose of meds without a pacemaker.
Thankyou for your input, ,my cardio suggested i could have sss too, i have long pauses on ecg, other times a fib. And tachycardia, suspected a flutter. Plus as i mentioned, coronary spasms. Awaiting proper diagnosis really stresses me. Its helpful reading others real life experiences with all of this, and feeling bad side effects of tildiem, with dismissive dctrs, doesent help.
Yes, had all those 🙁 Before I had an ablation for AF and flutter my resting HR was quite slow but since then it has usually been faster but I'm still told I can't take any meds as PIP so if I feel too bad I have to go to A&E. Did you have pauses before you took Tildiem?
