HI -- i've had a-fib for several years but only recently started anticoagulant: Eliquis. If anyone here takes this or Xarelto -- do you get blood tested for coagulation rate? how do you and your doctor know if it is working, being properly absorbed, or if you are in theraputic range? The research literature says there are no 'reliable' or 'consistent' ways to measure. so what do these patients do? thanks so much!

You don't do anything other than have an annual kidney function test. Beyond that you trust that the scientists got it right.
I think the pond is muddied by the need to test an anticoagulant like Warfarin that can be affected by all sorts of things. Eliquis, Xarelto and the other NOACs work differently and have a more constant effect and, as jennydog says, you trust the experts. If you take the medication as prescribed for your circumstances you should be appropriately anticoagulated and can relax and feel adequately protected.
