I was always told " A little bit of what you fancy does you good"

Me too! One of my grandmother's frequent sayings. That and "Moderation in all things." I can hear her now ...... and I think it's good advice. :-)

I had a very old doctor in the 1960's and when I asked him the secret of his longevity he replied, Moderation in all things and an excess of Whisky. This was said as he filled the very large pipe that he smoked in the surgery:-)

I'd take that with a pinch of salt. I've been a chocoholic all my life certainly didn't help me. I think a bit more research is needed on this one

Don't forget the RDA for salt is 6g, so only use a small pinch

Yes, more research is needed......I'll do it 😄.

When I was still working. every afternoon I would buy a bar of chocolate and most evenings another on the way home and it didn't help me. Waste-line prevents that these days.

"they found that compared with people who ate no chocolate, those who had one to three one-ounce servings a month had a 10 percent reduced relative risk for atrial fibrillation"

Where did they find these people in either of these groups ?????????

I thought the whole human race depended on 25g of chocolate per day :-)

Wot, just 25g? :D

Cardiologist told me no chocolate so I gave it up but it hasn't made any difference.

I seem to remember hearing ages ago that a square of dark chocolate a day was 'good for you', but I know nothing about a study or for whom (age group? gender?) it was supposed to 'be good'.

Me? If I open a bar then I tend to eat it all in one go so I don't eat any!

If I eat dark chocolate I get a episode of AF. 😢

Yes that reminds me, there's some caffeine in it isn't there?

They always spoil it, don't they. “You can’t have as much chocolate as you want,” she said, “and then ignore everything we know about healthy diet and physical activity.” 😢

Neil

I eat loads of dark chocolate, including 100% raw which chop onto my breakfast every morning. It doesn't affect my AF at all.

On the BBC some time ago they listed the top 20 countries for freedom from serious health issues, and in that top 20 was one country (south America, can't recall which country) where they ate loads of cocoa. Iceland was top with an amazing health record, but nothing to do with chocolate, not many cocoa plants in Iceland.

Don't forget, most British "chocolate" very little chocolate in it
