Apart from the obvious benefit to the planet of the lockdown I have just returned from our morning Boris Walk and note that today we took 12 minutes off our best 2 mile walk including 500 feet of elevation change. When we started it was taking 1 1/4 hour but this morning 47 minutes. Time for a cuppa!
Benefits of lock down.: Apart from the... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Benefits of lock down.
Good going Bob, doing the same getting fitter with daily rides, we're going to be like highly tuned athletes by the end of lockdown 😂👌
U sure u didn’t use a lekkie bike........😉
Gotta say my fitness is improving too. It's nice to get out for a short while every day and exercise the old ticker.
I do 2 km run every day now. Most is very up hill except for a steep slope coming back down. I run up the hills and walk on the downward bit (save the old knees).
Resting HR has gone down to 55 average. Running up the hills takes it to 120 - 130. With the walking bit included it takes about 18 minutes to cover the 2 km.
The best bit is the time it takes for my heart rate to come down after. It's back down to resting level after 20 minutes (ish). It took an hour before - I'm chuffed to bits.
Hidden you seen the price of lekkie bikes ? Bring back the Boris bus
Enjoy your weekend all.

That is impressive!
I'm lucky at the moment Hoski. With afib it could all change tomorrow or today - I'm prepared for that and know at some point this will / can happen.
However I'll make the most of it while I can. My heart has certainly had a good rest from my real 'afib days' and will (is) repairing and getting a little more healthy.
I'm making hay while the sun is shinning so to speak. I know I'm still at risk but I'm one of the lucky ones - many people have afib and don't know there's a problem.
I also think like this - in fact I was discussing it earlier today as it happens with the lass. Without this problem I would have carried on with my previous life style. I would have been a prime candidate for heart disease / attack and other medicial problems. In fact I would have been amazed if I made to my mid 60's if I carried on as I did. That's with hindsight of course.
From a negative comes a postive.

Yes
A regular 5km walk of mine, with 40m of climb, typically takes me 75 minutes - but, before I cracked my heal, I was working towards doing it in an hour.
I have just beaten my best, Reading A Gentleman in Moscow in two days!👍🤣
I've just finished reading it too, thoroughly enjoyed it but had to ration myself so as to make it last about four days 😁
Great to mark the difference eh.....I’m living up a hill, well it’s the alps....I’m pleased I’m less puffed walking down and up each day.....but I’d love a flat walk! Maybe next Monday if we get unlocked a bit!
Sorry I'm well over that and still walking . How can I isolate totally when I have two sons living here who both work?
Bob this lockdown has been great for me.I have gone from walking 1 to 2 miles & struggling to 4 miles & even testing my self on short hills.Touch wood I feel better than I have in a long time & seeing places in the neighborhood I never new existed.
Naismiths rule for walkers/climbers/ mountaineers
2 mph across rough ground
3 mph hour across country
4 mph /hour on paved paths/roads
1 hour for 2000 feet of ascent
So :
2 miles on a paved path at 4mph = 30 minutes
500 feet ascent = 15 minutes
total 45 minutes
or
2 miles on across country at 3mph = 40 minutes
500 feet ascent = 15 minutes
total 55 minutes
Either way you are doing well. The only drawback is that all the cafes are shut so you can't have a quick refresh half way round, unless you take a flask, to be furtively sampled while standing of course. Great to see the green stuff, breathe clean air and listen to the birds. Wonderful.
youtube.com/watch?v=u08lo0b... I do this programme every morning, It is a cardio wal workout you walk a mile it take 17 minutes and I am really enjoying it. I also walk 2 K in the garden and do some weights. Do try it out. I am 74 and used to walk 6 k everyday.
How wonderful!
