Pacemaker

Can anyone help after having a pacemaker fitted 5 weeks ago the pain on the site is unbearable I just want to rip it out having problems sleeping as it sticks out so much and catches on bedclothes etc is this normal to be this uncomfortable

Oh dear this sounds awful for you

They have suggested a Pacemaker for me but your experience is one of my many fears.

I suggest you talk to your support contact at the hospital tomorrow.

Hi had mine done in Aug 2014 and yes it was painful for a number of weeks. Just take it easy. I used soft bras like ah bras as straps more comfy used sheepskin on my seat belt to prevent pressure there too. It does get better honest. Apart from when a bony grandchilds elbow digs in the spot lol. Kept scar covered in sun first year too and used bio oil when completely healed

Also pillow to cuddle into on that side for protection

Used pillow when in bed stopped me rolling on it. Learnt all the tricks post open heart surgery eight months before. I did think everyone will see it but with the passage of time don't feel as bad about it. It does settle in a bit I think. Hey it's helping keep us functioning so take each day as it comes. You will learn to live with it

Ps my scar looked very puckered and poorly stitched however it's now nigh on invisible

Mine was not very obvious when fitted in July 2015 but is more so now. I had them check it recently and they said that it is well seated and that tissue is growing over it. Some nights I feel pressure on it when in bed and other times not.

Had mine fitted August 2015, so nearly two years. Yes, it was sore for up to six weeks after, but since then no trouble. Scar is barely visible. You can see the pacemaker if you are looking for it, but people who don't know you have one can't see it. I agree with the responses you have received. The pacemaker is doing a great job keeping your heart beating as it should. I look upon mine as a friend, although I know that sounds silly. Wishing you well for the future.

Best decision I ever made, painful for first few weeks lifting arm etc ,scarring very slightly over a bit of a square looking lump but it has become invisible to me.
