Just had a pacemaker done today . Due to bradacardia. There were issues with getting it done due to finding vain at collar bone .and then lead would not go by the valve. Used 3 diferent ones. Eventually it worked. Also very painful due to getting pacemaker inserted into position. Took 1 & half hours to do... normally under an hour . looking forward to tomorrow getting x-ray & hopefully getting home. Long journey ahead but on right road now I hope with having so much breathlessness I'm hoping this helps .... although painful for me .id say if needed get it done.

Take things very easy when you get home, no lifting arm above shoulder height for 6 weeks ! Expect quite a bit of pain and bruising especially if it was a difficult procedure, hopefully all will be well and worth the trauma, good luck and take care.

I had a pacemaker put in 4 weeks ago for the same reason. My team had trouble with my veins too. 2 hours later it was all done!!4 weeks in and it's nowhere near as painful. I think this is the most difficult time as you constantly need to remember not to stretch out/use your left arm too much. As it's no longer constantly sore, I keep having to remind myself to be aware of this.

Take it easy for as long as you can. You may find you'll be quite tired too. I was okay the first week, but the last week or 2 I've had a little nap most days.

Good luck with your recovery. I hope it all goes well for your.

Definitely! Rest up for the full 6 weeks. I've still got my family on kitchen duty 😊Take Panadol when you need it to. I took them regularly for the first 10 days just to keep the pain at bay. Very unusual for me, I don 't normally take them at all!!

Hello trucker, I had my first pacemaker inserted in 2004 had my third one in May last year. The first one was quite painful for a week or so, difficult to use my left arm, however the replacements were much simpler and little or no pain. All done as an out patient and home same day. They don’t cure the a fib but do help.

Good luck

why were the replacements necessary ? I had my pacemaker fitted five years ago and was told at my last checkup that it was good for another nine years ! I do hope they are right as the fitting I did find painful. keep well Terjo

Hello again, all depends on how much your body uses the pacemaker, mine must rely on it considerably therefore the three I’ve had were necessary. The one I had in May last year was marked as urgent because it had been left too long, been excellent since, had my last really bad Afib last February .You seem to have had much better treatment than my hospital experience ,

I am 81 this year so not doing too bad, be positive.
