Well first off I want to tell you don't worry, you should be awake during the procedure. The first part they will put a local freezing they said it would be painful and will feel warm that part was right, the pain is not, you're going to feel discomfort from the incision the stiches are self dissolving and with mine the first 2 months it never fired up but, lately I have some skipped beats and this pacer maker they can adjust the thing with a magnet or over the phone mine is on demand to fire up when I go bellow 50 beat per minute. when we need it, get it and don't be worried just throw the dice, everyday we get is a bonus and should always be greeted with a smile. Just after you can't raise your arm over your head or in front or behind of you, you can pull out the leads just follow the directions and you will be as good as new. Good Luck, all the best and remember to smile!

I had a single lead pacemaker inserted in October as I have infrahisian disease; so while in permanent AF I have poor electrical conduction resulting in bradycardia. My pacing set at 55 beats per minute (my ventricular rate had dropped to 30). Had my first pace check on 1st December, all fine so now I can use my left arm normally again which means back to yoga and other activities. I have not felt so well for many years! Wishing you all the best.

Hi I have SSS, had a pacemaker put in as an emergency as my heart kept stopping during a particularly bad episode. That was almost 6 years ago. Mine is set at 60 beats. Once healed you won't really notice it. I take the blood thinner warfarin so my Dr laughs and said it would be hard to kill me. Just take it easy at first and you will be fine. Actually it is a comfort for me because I remember how I felt when my heart wouldn't keep beating. Not pleasant. Good luck to you.

I have SSS with bradycardia(40-50) and PAF. Had my first two lead pacemaker 10 years ago in local anestesia. After 2-3 months no problems when the wound had healed. This pm was replaced after 7 years without problems in the same place. The wires stay in the chambers of heart, only "machine" is changed. During these 10 years only PAF has created problems, but pm helps to tolerate better eg. bisoprolol. The rate has been set at 60-70 (I prefer 70, don't remember why) and maximum at 140. So I can recommend. Makes me feel safer and ease medications. Good luck!
