Visiting the dentist?

NHS Scotland have published guidance on how to effectively manage patients on anticoagulants- don't hesitate to visit your dentist - there are strategies to cope, even if you need an extraction.

Patients taking calcium channel blockers are advised to ask their hygienist or dentist to check for hyperplastic changes in the gum which may need extra attention when brushing - there is no harm in reminding them of this phenomenon that affects a small percentage of people on this medication. It's not life threatening but can cause plaque build up because of a difficulty in cleaning.

Hope this information is reassuring
