Do be careful as you may feel very tired for some months, which is the point of the phased return. Your heart will take at least 3 months to heal. I did too much, too soon and ended up in cardiac care and needed a second ablation.
It so annoys me how the NHS treat their staff! Take your time if you need to, it's your health not hers. I would very subtly let her know that if you agree to her terms after going against your doctors' advice and you have a relapse then it might be wise for you to consult an employment law specialist. Sounds like bullying tactics to me.
Dear Gwyn, I work in the NHS and I had to go and see Occupational health who advised my manager how my phased return to work should be implemented. I would suggest contacting Occupational health, your GP should also support your phased return. Wishing you all the best.
Hi Gwyn, sorry you've had a bad experience with work. I went back 3 weeks after ablation but it was too soon- worked for 3 weeks then went into meltdown and had to have 8 weeks off. Work was great and i'm now on a 6 week phased return and feeling a lot stronger, they've been really understanding ( nhs) so yes you need to go higher and get what you are entitled too, there will be a policy about it somewhere, good luck
Has your hospital got an Almoner who could perhaps hep you with your inconsiderate employer? I have had my AF for many years and had no problems with an employer until I worked for the NHS!! I was staggered at their attitude and bullying. You should not have been treated this way. If they don't have you back to work in a reasonably fit state then they will have more problems covering for you when you have to take further sick leave. That's NHS management for you! I do hope you get help fighting your corner. Anne
Nor from the unions who are simply in the employers' pockets! I used to work for the NHS too and they are a terrible employer.
Much as I usually like CDreamer's posts (Hi CDreamer!), please do not take the advice to see a law specialist. You do not need the stress of lawyers at this point in your life! That would be the beginning of a whole new set of problems which you can do without. However, if you are not feeling well enough to work at times, don't hesitate to stay home. Your health is paramount. I know people need to keep their jobs but I doubt there is really anything your employer could do to force you to work if you're not well enough. Whatever you do, please take care. A job is just a job.
