I was told I have a leaky valve by the cardiologist , is this something to be concerned, he said it would be checked in 3 months.

When I last had an echocardiogram I was told that I had a slightly leaky mitral valve, which I believe is common in people as they get older. I was told that it was nothing to worry about. I suppose it depends on how much your valve is leaking. I'm sure others from this forum will soon tell you about any similar diagnosis they may have had .
Best wishes

I have the same thing and same response from consultant. Take care.
Yes, is quite common. Your cardiologist will, as he says, just check it again to make sure there is no change.

I don't want to throw any pessimism in here but I always thought that a leaky valve (mitral valve regurgitation in my case) whilst harmless enough in itself, could cause pooling which isn't good and indicates a need for Warfarin or other anti coag drug. Worth checking with those that are looking after you, Harrycat.
Thanks very much, dadog1, I am covered, I have been on Warfarin for a few years now, levels very good 2.5 with 2mg daily......
I have two leaky valves and under a valve consultant as well as a consultant EP. I have mild leakage in mitral valve which I was told can actually disappear if not in AF (I have persistent AF). I have moderate to severe leakage in tricuspid valve. Originally diagnosed end of September last year. Since then had cardio version and an ablation (included a second cardio version). Had second and more extensive echocardiogram three weeks ago. I am now going to have a MR scan in two weeks time. Next time with consultant is beginning of October. Don't worry about it because If they were worried then they would be doing something much sooner.
I was told 20 years ago that my replacement valve was leaking but it's not caused me any problems and l have just had a pacemaker fitted at 84 years old all the best Gordon
