Having been amongst the first 20 or so in the south. West of England, to undergo this new procedure in December 2014, I am now to have the 2nd part next Wednesday 3rd June.
Briefly because the diameter of my left Atrium is greater than 5mm, I was deemed unsuitable for normal Catheter Ablation but under a new procedure which involved Cardio Thoracic Surgery, I was ?
In December I was operated on by a cardio Thoracic Team to Ablate the outside of the heart using non evasive key hole techniques. Although I was back in NSR at the conclusion of the procedure, 48 hours later I was back in AF. It was explained to me that this was not unusual as the heart needs time to settle down after this operation. I was to have the 2nd part at the end of January 2015 but that wasn't to be because of the winter pressures on hospitals in the south west which at one point were all on Black State.
But I am to be admitted, on Wednesday 3rd June, for the concluding procedure (I hope). This will be by Catheter Ablation of the inside of the heart to confirm mutability of the 1st procedure. By the end of this procedure I hope to be back in SR for the first time in over 18 months and hopefully return to normal life ?
I will keep you posted. Anyone on this site who has had this procedure please tell me how it was for you, and how you are now since your operation ?

Hi Lastec1, how interesting to read of this procedure, I have never heard of it. Please keep us posted as to the outcome of the second procedure.
I had an AV Node ablation which was cancelled three times due to Black Alert at Treliske in Truro so I know what you must be going through, you just want to get it over with and feeling well again.
Best of luck, I will be thinking of you. Angel blessings
I was discharged yesterday at 1pm, having been told by the Team that the op was a success and that there had only been a need to create 2 spot lesions at the back of the heart where the Thoracic team find it harder to access. Now taking it easy at home as I have heavy bruising around the groin entry area. They don't want to see me now for 4 months, when I will go in for a few tests to see how the heart is coping. After the weekend I will start walking and after another week will be back to work.
