I am now undergoing a staged hybrid convergent ablation. First stage, a surgical ablation already done on 15 May and the second stage, a catheter ablation will be done in 3 weeks. After the first back to persistent AF and still there. I am still hopeful though that after the second ablation I will be back to NRS and maintain it for a long time. May I ask those who have had the same convergent intervention about the outcome of their procedure? Is there anybody who went back to persistent AF after the first ablation but still had a successful outcome after the second one? I would highly appreciate any comments, thoughts and reassurance. Thanks a lot. x

Outcome of a staged hybrid convergent ablation
Hello. I’m sorry I can’t help answer your question directly as I haven’t had the procedure you are going through or anything like it but I wanted to say that I’m sure your journey is going to be successful, you are only half way through it, and you are just in a ‘dip’ at the moment. Stay positive, there are loads of people like me on here rooting for you.
Dear Goosebumps Thank you ever so much for your encouragement and support. It means so much to me. God bless you❤️.! How can you be not positive after reading such kind words? Thank you so much! 💕🥰x
I’m sorry, I haven’t had a staged Hybrid either, and I suspect there are very few members of this forum who have .
I would encourage you to stay calm and positive - it’s a two stage procedure. Also, if you can contact your consultant via their secretary or your gp they may be able to reassure you.
If you’re one of the first they must have thought you have a strong chance of success!!!
Thank you very much Mumursa for your kind words. I don’t think I am the first undergoing this procedure, although it is quiet revolutionary and innovative. It is mainly offered to patients who have long lasting persistent AF and also another condition, eg heart failure like me. In these cases the success rate of one single ablation is around 30%, while the hybrid has a success rate about 70-80%. Although even the Prof who will do the second stage, the catheter ablation admitted they my case will be very challenging for him and his team as well. Let’s hope they can rise to the challenge! 🤞Thanks a lot again for your encouragement! 💕x
everyone’s afib is different but with a convergent procedure the surgeon and the EP share the lesion set between them. It is a little different to a hybrid mini maze where the surgeon does most of the lesions and the EP then follows up with the small number of lesions the surgeon can’t reach only if needed.
So until you have had your second phase of convergent you won’t have a complete lesion set and so it is common for afib to still be there. It’s so hard to have to wait to see if this will be successful, my heart goes out to you. I am looking forward to hearing of your success though in July. Remember there is still a blanking period after that so while all the lesions heal you may still have occasional arrhythmias.
Much love, stay strong, here to chat whenever you need me x
Thank you so much! xx Your support, knowledge and empathy are invaluable and mean so much to me xx God bless you! ❤️
