Hi all, following two stents in April last year, I have just tried to renew my annual travel insurance policy with the Post Office (I have been with them for over two decades!!) and apparently "computer says no!!" I was shocked, and very disappointed with this company, but am now in need of advice - where can I get decent cover to include winter sports??

There was an article I this week's Mail on Sunday suggesting 2 comparison sites for the afflicted.

Medicaltravelcompared.co.uk

Allcleartravel.co.uk

Let us know if they're any good. Good luck.

Thanks Shirlygirl :-)

I'm with SAGA on annual cover because so are my parents-in-law who had to claim, and SAGA were great.

No idea about winter sports though!

I am with Good to Go and so far have found them reasonable price wise but I have opted for cover in UK and Europe only.

Hi Bryonny, one more to add to my list - thanks for your help, when I get a chance to contact them all this W/E, I'll publish my results on here.

We have always been able to insure with Stay Sure - they will want to know conditions and medications, but provided you are up front with that they are very helpful. You can google them and I believe they cover most areas of activities/vacations etc.

Good luck.

Hi Durin , I am with Virgin, I explained that I had A/F and they insured me no problem, except the premium went up to £80 for myself and the wife unlimited travel European cover for 12months .

I presume your insurance was declined on health grounds? I needed extended insurance (5 month trip, including the USA) and found the AA was the cheapest. Well, hardly cheap, let's say least expensive at £450.

Look at Nationwide building society Flexplus current account. Declare your medical history and get 3% interest on cash, free world wide travel insurance including USA and Caribbean and 15 days ski each year. I pay an extra £80 per annum for a stent and AF. The account also has free car breakdown and mobile cover. Check that your medical conditions will be eligible, this can be done by phone or call into a branch.

That looks like a great deal, is it age related, (I'm 64)?

I'm 71 and they will insure you up to 75 then after that to continue to get cover there is a £50 per annum extra to pay.....still good value.

Thanks Royki, that's put a smile on my face, I do have a savings account with Nationwide, so I think it would be relatively simple to open a Flex-plus account

It could be the 'annual' that causes th problem. There are 3 things that affect travel insurance, age, chronic conditions ad how long you have had them for and how long since you have had a procedure or if you are awaiting treatment, oh and if you are taking a AC which requires blood test. No matter which co you go to, they will add up to a No.

There is no such thing as loyalty these days, you must shops around every time you renew anythingl

Any of the co s that specialise in medical, I found that travel4medical gave the best deal for me but as I have 2 other chronic conditions I can no longer get any annual policies, which is a real pain, but interestingly last year only going away 3 times, it worked out cheaper than what I had been paying on an annual policy 4 years ago!

Shop around and ring each, do not rely on computer websites as I have been offered insurance by phone by co s which said no online,

For all those that offered me useful tips and information on annual multi-trip travel insurance following my 'stenting' - I am pleased to announce I am once again fully covered! I say fully, I am fully covered for Winter sports and travel in Europe, but my cover in the USA exclude any claims relating to my 'existing health' condition.

Job Done - and thanks for all the help. xx
