Had my 1st CV done under gen anaesth and was told I reverted back to NSR on1st attempt. Can honestly say all you lovely Afibers told me it was a piece of cake and it was!! However now back home and resting but can feel a few weird jumps and things going on now and again Is this normal after cv? Please say yes!! Patricia.

It is probably just you being super sensitive BUT I am sure you were told DCCV is not a cure for AF and may only be temporary. The good news is that it proves that you can be converted which makes an ablation a possibility.

Rest now

Yes Bob they did say that it was not permanent.....now I daren't even think of ablation knowing how stressed I was about the CV. They did say they could convert again if this did not prove successful 1st time round. I am trying to just take it as it comes....I think you may be right....when I am up and about I feel ok but the minute I sit down/rest then I am totally focused on my heart - definitely super sensitive.

Anyway, thank you - you were 100% right about the cardio - it was nothing to worry about! Also...the resuscitation nurse in the theatre told me to check out this site....he said it was by far the best for accurate info. How right he is!! Patricia.

Happy for you Gemini, I just got the date through for my second CV attempt on St Patricks day, I think I'm glad it's that day and not the morning after.

Didn't work for me first time, hoping that this time the Amiodarone will at least allow me some hours of normal rhythm.

Be well

Ian

Aw good luck on your 2nd attempt Ian. Hope you have the luck of the Irish on that day. Honestly this AF is one helluva ride! Patricia

Wishing you all the luck of the Irish, all being well, I'll be in Portugal, but armed with iPad to pick up any news! Best of luck, John

My first cv didn't last more than 8 hours, but they put me on 800 mg of amiodarone to prep for the second one 6 weeks later ...however 5 weeks and 3 days later the amiodarone did it on its own....lowered the dosage to 400, 200 and eventually 100mg with great results only went into AFib when I ate one of my triggers but always reverted out with in hours. But year check up took me off the amiodarone due to the longer term side effects that one can get....now on flecainide...and still, messing with the dosage .....

I skipped the second try at CV (first didn't work at all though) and went straight to ablation. Best decision I ever made! Probably easier because brother had already gone through three.

Yes it's totally normal! Try not to worry and do be positive.

There are people out there who have a CV and never look back - why shouldn't you be one of them?

Good luck!

YES.....but try not to worry get anxious, mine is still working after 5 months, best of luck, John

Patricia, I had a successful 1st attempt CV like yourself. I too had the odd bump & jump for a few days afterwards, but it did settle down

I have been AF free now since May '14 although I do still get the odd "twinge"

P.s I have my fingers & toes crossed while trying to type this!!

I too had lots of bumping around and in fact am still getting them. Took a couple of weeks to feel normal again after anaesthetic, I think we all tolerate this at different levels. Glad it worked for you, this is a good sign for future ablation so we are told. Keep well.

Just back from my own second CV and feeling fine! First attempt - 200 joules. I hope to repeat the first CV and go another 13 months. Feet up, Patricia. Stop worrying. Enjoy being normal for as long as as it takes.
