Cardioversion update

After a wait of 7 months being in persistent AF I finally had my CV this morning. All went well and back in NSR after 1 shock. Resting HR is around mid 50s and Bisprolol reduced to 1.25mg. Follow up with the EP in 3 months.

Fingers crossed that you now stay in sinus rhythm. I had lots of CV's over the years and actually loved having them as I always reverted after one zap. Then one year I had two and when I went back into AF a few months later they said they wouldn't offer any more. Have been in constant AF ever since (4 years in November).

Jean, I'm just wondering... I know you live life well, being in constant AF now, but perhaps a second opinion from what you were originally told (that they wouldn't offer any more CVs), might be warranted; that you may well have another CV after all, and get you out of AF. Just a thought -- hope I haven't overstepped!

I'd have another CV willingly, but once you've been in AF a long time it's unlikely to succeed. Shame I couldn't have had a 3rd one in the year 2019, but more and more people of a younger age are now experiencing AF and the waiting list for them is long. I have to be fair and step back now and give others a chance. I've had AF for 18 years and have had so many over the years I've lost count.

Understood. Wishing you well that you continue enjoying life.

Forgot to say, don't do anything that requires effort for a few weeks and allow your heart to gain strength beating in it's correct rhythm. I once walked up a hill the day after having one and immediately went back into AF. Too late to be sorry after you've done it. No alcohol for that period either.

Sound advice Jean and I'll definitely try my best. I remember your post about walking up that hill. I did find being in persistent AF better than paroxysmal. One finds one's limits very quickly.

wish you a long NSR! I had my last CV in December and put on quite low dose of Metoprolol, so far so good. The first couple of months post CV everything would make me nervous. As Bob says, just learn to relax and breathe, no alcohol and caffeine, best advice! My next Cardiologist appt. Is early August but feel good now. Brisk walk every day and Pilates twice a week. Hopefully lasts for a long time!

NSR! I watched the BHF video of someone having a CV and going to NSR. Not available to me and I can't remember what NSR was like. I am very jealous. All the best to you.

Do hope it has done the trick.Mine took a few attempts to gain NSR.And yes to be careful for a few weeks.Mine only lasted 9 days.Flipped on my second shot game of bowls.Good luck.

Thanks, although I didn't find persistent AF too bad. Not sure if I want to go through another ablation though.

I thought we were talking Cardioversion? Was the CV after a failed ablation.I am 5 months post Ablation at the moment and still have the odd Arrhythmia but not Afib.

This one was a CV. It's possible that the next offer will be another ablation having achieved NSR I had a RF ablation in 2010 and Cryoablation in 2018 complicated by a bleed into the pericardium. Both were successful but having had a great result first time I was slightly disappointed with the 2nd which lasted only 3 years. Hopefully you will have a long time in NSR 🤞
