Having recently visited a different cardio for a second opinion, he strongly advised that I should consider going for an appointment at the London AF Centre at London Bridge Hospital. As I live up north, this is not very practical but I am prepared to go if it is considered worthwhile. Has anyone any experience of it?

London AF Centre
The doctors who work there are amongst the best EPs so it would be a good place to go if you are considering ablation. However, it is a private clinic- OK if you are insured/ wealthy, but if you want to be an NHS patient, Richard schilling and some of his colleagues also work at St Bartholomews and on the London AF centre website advise NHS patients to ask to be referred to Barts.
Good luck!
Yes it is the top hospital. I had my ablation there but I think the same consultants also operate at St Barts. I was given the choice so I wish you good luck. Simon Sporton was my specialist and he was wonderful! I wish you luck.
Yes, I have been there, Prof Schilling looks after me and did two ablations which have made a huge difference to my life. Wonderful support when at times one has felt very isolated and fearful. It is a long way for you to come, but I can assure you, it is a decision you wont regret. Best wishes.
I had an ablation with Richard Schilling in 2010 at London Bridge. I had very carefully research it beforehand and it seemed the best place in the country and the best EP. It is private but that gave me the opportunity to ask loads of questions beforehand. It was a combo - both RF and cryo. I'm very glad I made that decision, I'm still in NSR. It wasn't the easiest ablation, the work was quite extensive.
I would travel a long way to get a similar outcome. I would suggest it is also worth you meeting your EP at least once perhaps a month or two before to build up a relationship, so put a day aside for that. Also think about travel arrangements afterwards when you might temporarily be feeling a lot worse than usual.
