I have been diagnosed with Afib. I am having my first ablation tomorrow and I am very nervous. Has anyone else had it done and whats it like. I have had an anagram done is it similar ? That was though my arm , I believe this is different.

Good luck dragonpingirl. Not had mine yet but on the list. I had my angiogram via my groin, no scar had bruising but it soon settled down.

Being worried is natural but the relief of having had the ablation and looking forward to some peace from AF is the target. I miss my foreign holidays soooooo much and have the possibility of regaining confidence to go is a big motivator for me.

Rest and recuperate at length post ablation dont push yourself too soon. Where are you having it done and by whom.

Best wishes

Dee

Thanks Having it done at Wythenshaw, Manchester, by Dr Fox. I am looking forward to stop having episodes that scare me so much, my life has been hell for the last 8 months. Thanks for your support , it is much appreciated . Good luck with yours Dee when the time comes.

Best wishes

Gwen

Good place! I expect you'll feel safe in their capable hands. I had my first ablation at Wythenshaw and was a bit miffed when I found I was going to Blackpool instead second time, but they are both excellent. My first didn't go too well as I spent a lot of the time slipping into AF and they just did the minimum. The standard of care was very high.

I've been significantly improved by the procedure and on so much less medication too. Great result.

Do hope you find the same, Gwen.

Hi Gwen, I had my ablation done same place, just under 2 weeks ago. (there are 2 posts in the last 2 weeks if you scroll down - both by me. I've been writing fairly regular since then, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

Mine were a breeze and I wouldn't give having a third one a second thought. First one kept me clear for 8 years. I was nervous on the first one, who wouldn't be? But second time I just walked in, lay on the table, had a chat, they checked who I was which I thought was very sensible, then just woke up in bed a few hours later. Felt great after both. EP came to see me and told me what they'd found and what they'd done etc.

Had mine in June, I was absolutely terrified, what a waste of emotion, while it wasn't a walk in the park it certainly isn't all that your imagination thinks it will be. Just take a deep breath, your Dr Fox will have done hundreds of ablations, in a couple of days you'll wonder why you were panicking. When you're well enough post to let us all know how it went and how you're feeling x

I look forward to hearing all about it as mine is coming up in the next few months . Don't forget to take the things other folk recommend like a bottle of water Vaseline for lips . By the time I have mine I will need a suitcase for all the essential items! Will be thinking about you.x

Good luck. It will be over before you know it. I had mine four weeks ago and feel so much better for it. Remember to rest up for at least two weeks afterwards.

Ditto, your imagination will scare you far more than the reality.

The actual procedure is complicated for the doctors but an absolute breeze for us patients! Best wishes for a successful outcome and an end to your AF.

Good Luck. Waiting for my first one too. Be great to hear how you get on :)

Hi, hope your procedure went ok, or will go ok. I had mine done on 24th July, nothing to it, but the equipment failed after three hours, not my fault and not the EP's fault, so going back on 21st August to go through it all again. Good thing my EP., told me he had confirmed rogue electrical potentials in pulmonary veins whilst in the heart, but unfortunately as I've said then the equipment malfunctioned before they could ablate the veins. Next time hopefully all will be ok and I can say goodbye to AF., hopefully for good. My EP., has told me that because my health is very good other than the AF., he is confident the outcome will be positive. Hope your outcome is positive.

Here's something to relax anyone and help unwind. I f this doesn't work nothing will. Hope you enjoy folks.

Its been 3 years since I had my ablation done. Its been ok for a while but recently I have had a few flutters returning. I think its been to much caffeine or over doing things. So i am resting this week and I have just cut out the coffee. I am hoping I do not have to have the procedure done again.
