Hello Jackieboy 55. Yes I have heard of this connection. A number of people in the AF support group I attend experience tinitus since starting with AF. It is not uncommon.

Regards

Dee.

Hello,Jackieboy55.Since being diagnosed with PDF 12months ago I am experiencing constant Tinnitus with progress hearing loss.I have asked my GP if there is a connection with PDF but he just stares at me blankly and cannot answer. My own opinion is yes it must be either that or the medication I have read that one of the contra-indications of Aspirin is Tinnitus.C

Thank you both for your replies. I have had tinitus for about 3 years with some hearing loss, but was diagnosed with af in January this year, but this was after several months of me trying to ignore it and more months trying to catch it on ECG. I think it may have been there for much longer though.

I have tinitus since being diagnosed with AF, on one side only. I thought it seemed too much of a coincidence but my doctor wouldnt agree. However when I went to the hearing specialist the doctor told me that there is a connection. Apparently the blood vessels in your ear are tiny. and can get easily blocked by a minute clot caused by your AF. Sadly there is no cure and the damage is permanent.

I've had tinnitus for many years on and off . It has got progressively worse over the years the doctor has not connected it with AF but I'll mention it next time I see him. It's very disturbing to hear about tiny blood clots in the ear veins .

Another AF last week but luckily it wasn't on the day of the show hope my luck holds for this weekends wedding. Thanks for all the excellent information on this board it has given me a real boost and made me much more confident to carry on and do more. Keep up the good work, wish you'd been here years ago. I too have had tinnitus for many years,[following a car shunt and whiplash] but it has been increasingly worsened since starting on the AF drug regime in the last 6 months. I had put it down to the drugs, but maybe it is linked to the AF after all! I will ask my cardio when next I go.

Thank you too to AF team for your help number too! Jan

Thank you for all your replies. My tinitus started before diagnosis of af, but have been on statins and aspirin ( until warfarin) since suspected Tia in 2005. Think af may have present since around that time as other unexplained symptoms ( dizziness, shortness of breath, excessively tired and just odd sensations with intermittent numbness and tingling) . Tinitus is getting more intrusive though, but mostly in one ear . Sorry to ramble on. Nick

This forum is really very useful.

I developed tinnitus about the time I had a lot of AF in March and thought it must be going for the economy class (rather than pay for the upgrade) ear de waxing. The last 3 months I have been without any known episodes and the tinnitus has subsided a bit.
