I want to purchase a monitor that will suit/detect my AF.
In the beginning I was only affected occasionally but things are now changing, I think a monitor will help.

Hi tk
I use an Omron M10-IT, on offer at Amazon right now,
BUT some words of warning if that is OK.
It doesn't always work, as I am in persistent AF and it does give false readings at times, it simply can't work out which heartbeat to measure and they are ALL like this, all the automatic ones. The M10 does have the advantage of downloading to the computer so you can play with the pretty graphs and for me take my history along to my doctor.
As BobD told me, and I listen to anything he says, you can get really hung on on this measuring, and it probably isn't going to help. I am using mine solely to try and wean myself off beta blockers (calcium channel blockers) and I take along a month at a time as we lessen the doses, hopefully I shall go down again next time.
The HRM will not detect AF only a ECG will do that properly, it will flag an uneven heartbeat however but honestly that is not of much help (at least to me)
So I recommend the M10-IT but please do not expect too much from getting one.
Take care
Ian
tk11, I have the Omron BP791IT. It says it has:
Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor With Advanced Omron Health Management Software.
1-Touch Operation
Extra-Large Digital Display.
Features Hypertension Indicator, Morning Hypertension Indicator, Irregular Heartbeat & Excessive Body Motion.
2-Person/200 Total Measurement Memory With Date & Time Stamp.
I got it to keep track of my blood pressure and it also would detect AF.

Well done Ian. I aim oo please. It is so easy to get fixated on these things. I joke that I only started to feel better when the batteries went flat in my machine.

Hi tk11,
I use Microlife BP A100 plus.Good machine- tells if you have irregular heart rate, plus usual blood pressure. My cardiologist knows i use this, to check whats going on.However you should never rely on, or become fixated with checking AF, life goes on as they say.The best way is wearing a hospital monitor either 24 hr or 7 day,it gives far more information than any blood pressure monitor.Have you been referred to a hospital? If not ask for a referral.Hope that helps
i have an app on my i phone 4 which i find good it also keeps history for me to shaow my doctor .
I would suggest going to a good cycle shop as they will usually have a good range. Having researched these items its important to get the ones with a chest strap as opposed to the wrist band type. The reason for this is the accuracy, I have used a Cateye for several years and it has proved to be extremely accurate when compared to a hospital unit. I hope this helps
I used a Polar (low end) before I had AF, I decided it would be a good idea to use again, just to see what was happening at the gym. I think it must have picked up a lot of electrical activity as it showed an HR of 235bpm, now at 55 years old I think this may have been incorrect!. My theory is that it picked up many 'electrical signals' but not all of these made the heart beat.
Thanks all but have now had a LINQ cardiac monitor inserted as I have been having syncopes
