I am a newbie here and having read a number of posts am encouraged by the good info. As my starter has anyone found a "ok" monitor. Appreciate that accuracy will be a problem but a rough idea may be better than nothing. Thanks

An alivecor would be best bet as a true single lead ekg.

Try preventicus heartbeats app. For me it can detect a fib and differentiate it from ectopic beats. I tried a few apps but this is definitely the best quality. I haven’t compared it with kardia but it works well for me.

Hello Bennie06

I used a heart rate monitor on my iPhone and also had one on a Fitbit. The Fitbit I still use.

Now have a Kardia and find this the best of all.

Preventicus sounds good too

Kardia good with my Samsung A5 2017

AliveCor now called Kardia - has been evaluated by AFA and well accepted by EPs.

Works with multiple devices and doesn’t need to be wearable.

iWatch has a band which works with the app and gives constant monitoring.

My problem with the Fitbit was very poor build - they fall apart within a few months - been through 3 in 15 months.

I think your only real choice is the Kardia. £99 in the UK. Any other Android phone app that I've come across relies on using the camera and it's flash light to measure your 'pulse'. This relies on the capillaries swelling slightly as the blood pressure is increased at the height of the pulse pressure, and this makes your skin ever so slightly redder. The app looks for the rhythm of this reddening, and interprets this as your pulse rate. Unfortunately, whilst in AF, the pulse rate is erratic, and the app can't find the rhythm, so it just gives up.

The Kardia is a two lead ECG machine which (normally) connects through your fingers and the app is available for Android or iOS. There's lots of info on here about it - search for Kardia in the search box at the top of the page.
