Heart Rate Monitor Watch?

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a heart rate monitor watch to keep an eye on what sort of heart rate to stay under when exercising to avoid tripping myself into AF later in the day.

There seem to be hundreds out there! Can anyone recommend a nice, simple, accurate one?

Polar used to be the standard but now so many. If you're looking for something that will track heart rate but also generate an ekg, then consider the Apple Watch. You can also pair the Watch with the Polar Strap (or at least you use to be able) which kind of gives you the best of both worlds although I find the Watch itself -- in workout mode -- gives a pretty accurate and continuous heart rate and that's what I use now when exercising while my Polar collects dust :)

I do not own an Apple watch or any device, but Apple seems to be the favorite.

See above link for previous posts.

Thanks for the Apple recommendations - but when I say "nice, simple, accurate" please read "and cheap"!

I don't need an ecg, just a fairly accurate HR reading to check when hillwalking/cycling. Thanks.

The problem with a watch is the variable contact it makes with the wrist, and the condition of that contact owing to wrist shape, skin dryness and sweatiness. If you need a permanent contact, then a watch on the wrist, of any make, won't do it. For me Apple reigns supreme as a device, but needs an iPhone. Both can be had very reasonably, second hand, via Facebook MarketPlace or Amazon Renewed.

I have a Xiaomi MiBand which is a fitness band with extras. I wouldn’t say it is very accurate because it uses green light tech as they all do but it can be set to record your heart rate down to once per minute which gives you lots of info as an indication. The Smart band 7 is the latest and says it will give you a warning if your HR goes into an unsafe zone. About £55 so worth a try?

Garmin vivoactive. Lots of second hand ones on ebay, which is where we both got ours. Don't know about other makes but ours also has GPS for tracking where you walk. very useful as we're good at gettin lost in forests!

Fitbits are not too expensive depending which model you buy.

This is an endless search for me.I have used a Fitbit charge for years but I really feel my current one charge 4 is inaccurate particularly on excercise which is really when I need it.I like the display & the app however. Not being able to afford Apple watch & apple phone I tried music magpie refurbished which I would not recommend but absolutely hated the apple watch display and app.

I have tried a few others via Amazon & returned as innacurate or display too small so watching this post with interest.

This seems like a really good overview of 50 available watches, focusing on the hrm aspect:

Hi I love this guy's videos and watched loads but more orientated to excercise a lot more than I do Wouldn't find me on a bike or running.

My FitBit Sense seems to give me accurate and verifiable heart rate readings, and is easy to use and not TOO expensive. I also have a one lead Kardia for printing out ecg's, when needed. I found the Kardia gives a better trace than the FitBit Sense. I am happy with both devices.

Why not just take your pulse?

Easy to do when sitting down. Almost impossible to monitor in real time during exercise when cycling, running etc.

Can't do that while excercising.
