Another update - heart rate monitor & echocardiogram

So we had appointment for mum to have the heart rate monitor fitted this week, we were told it would be the Holster monitor but at appointment, the nurse fitted a Zio XT monitor. To our surprise, she also did an echocardiogram which we were not expecting. After the scan, the nurse said she just realised that she wasn’t told to do the scan, but due to a mix up on the paperwork, and the person who booked appointment, she realised that the scan wasn’t requested. As we have gone private, she said we wouldn’t be charged for the echocardiogram as it was an error on their side. Don’t know what the total cost will be, but will keep an eye to make sure we’re not charged for the heart scan. Although she did say that the results will be available for consultant to view.

That's a plus for your mum Nicky as it will show the structure of your mum's heart and how well it is functioning and will help with decisions on treatment. Make sure too to ask the consultant for the results of the echo - even though he/she didn't request it.

Best wishes to your mum and I hope she gets answers and options.

The Zio patch ECG monitor runs for as long as it stays stuck or for aa maximum of two weeks. It's likely better than a Holter monitor as it can "look" at the heart for longer. The cost will be around £1000 with the consultation, I believe.

Thank you Steve. Hopefully we will know exactly what’s going on, although they said mum only needs to have it on for 1 week.

It can easily fall off after several days I gather, and I was told a week is optimal. Mine did last two weeks but it was an especially calm fortnight for my heart - typical!!
