I recently purchased an Apple Watch for the heart rate monitor as I previously had a Garmin V3. The Apple has an ecg that I thought would useful but the Apple Watch battery is awful and also I have these odd dotted spikes on the graph that I am nit sure are accurate as I feel completely fine..
Any one has either of these or recommendations? Thanks in advance 😁
Which model of the Apple Watch ? The 4 and above come with an ECG which I have used with my heart consultant and sent him copies of the trace. On the 4 and above it should detect AFIB and notify you if it sees something unusual ..
I too have a 4 and it is fine. Can you post a photo?
I gave up my Apple Watch as I don’t think it that accurate on HR, but had the 3 which didn’t do the ECG.
Just read that Fitbit are working on a version to detect AF. I switched from Fitbit to Apple but found the Fitbit much more accurate on HR but the build was so terrible they fell apart after 9 months or so.}’
Hello
Thanks for the replies everyone. I purchased the Apple 5 and do fine the ECG useful as even last night I took some recording that was not showing AF but something was going on.
Here is a photo of the pulse odd blips.
Last night I wanted to throw it in the bin! Until I found it useful to record the ECG.
Hello. Ive an Apple as well and as for my experience these spikes are often due to mistakes in measurement done by the watch while walking. If u are sitting or laying down or standing normally u don’t have these spikes unless u force a measurement and in doing that u move a bit the watch while it is measuring.
Thank you - I am trying it for another 7 days . The battery life of 12 hrs is still doing my head in so when and if I manage to improve this I am begging to love my 5 😊
I love my apple 5 watch. And so does my cardiologist who always asks to see my iPhone to see my daily heart rate readings. I too have those dots of high recordings and he assured me it was absolutely normal for a single fast beat to show up even in a young, healthy heart. So now I ignore them.
My recommendation is to keep wearing it. And if you're like me you won't want to be without out. I now have a daily record and know when my AFibs start and end. Since I had my first AF attack the end of last August I have had 80. Since my Ablation in mid January I've had 37 - every three days. When I show that data to the AFClinic and the cardiologist and EP and my GP they were all appreciative. And impressed, told me i'm making it easier for them to support me.
Hang onto your Apple watch.
Oh, and I checked my HR against my blood pressure cuff I have at home and it matched. Plus I do some manual readings with my fingers on the pulse and they match. so i think it is accurate.
don't give up.
Hope this help as you make your decision to keep or not.
