Wanted to let everyone know that my husband appears to have been accepted for free coverage from Orgovyx !
We started the process by contacting Biologics, the specialty pharmacy that contracts with his insurance for Orgovyx.
I asked them to start the application for financial support… they sent it to his medical oncologist, then someone from Mayo who works on these applications contacted him.
We were sent the patient part of the Orgovyx application to fill out and the doctor filled out the medical part. It was all sent in … Biologics contacted him to tell him that they would not be supplying the medication… as Orgovyx was taking over.
Someone from Orgovyx called today and told him the name of the specialty pharmacy they contract with to send the medication by FedEx.
There was no financial information asked for in his part of the application… nor did Orgovyx ask him for any financial information.
Seems like magic to me!
Big relief!.

Yes, it does feel like a gift! We had researched ADT options and knew he wanted Orgovyx...though RO and MO wanted him on Lupron.
It's thanks to this site that we opted to proceed with the Orgovyx application for financial support....once we understood from other posters that it was income based not total assets...( though still mystified because no financial information was requested nor provided)
He needs to be on ADT for at least two years... he spent over $700 each month, the first few months this past Fall, then was somewhat less ( 600 ish, 500 ish)...
This is great news CC! I'm on 30-day Firmagon myself (Degarelix), like Orgovyx also a GnRH antagonist. (Of course Orgovyx has the daily pill advantage as well!) As you know. a GnRH antagonist is reputedly better for your heart etc.
Because I'm in Canada my ADT doesn't cost me anything. My doctors kept strongly suggesting to me I move to the Lupron / Eligard 90-day ADT for the "convenience" - but I stayed on the Firmagon. I think Orgovyx would be even better!
Here's an item I wrote on this forum a little while ago comparing the major ADT alternatives (URL corrected):
That was a good explanation of how the ADT options compare .. thanks!
Great that the ADT is free in Canada!
30 day Firmagon sounds like a good choice too… I think the reason his docs wanted him on Lupron was related to concerns about compliance primarily… which I can understand … but my husband is very good with taking his meds …
I think it was pretty quick, maybe a week and a half … there was someone at Mayo who facilitated the application and got the MO to fill out his part of the paperwork.
