Reclast to the rescue

After disappointing results on a second bone density scan a year ago, I decided to go with an infusion of Zoledronic Acid (Reclast) 5 mg/100 mL 5 MG/100ML injection. Because I was working to treat a Vit D. deficiency, I didn't have the infusion until August 6. I have lots of underlying arthritis so it was a painful 10 days after, but I guess it was worth it.

Here's the results of Friday's scan:

"Findings:

Lumbar spine: Spinal degenerative changes are present which elevate the DXA-measured BMD diffusely throughout the lumbar spine. The L1-4 BMD is 1.121 g/sq cm corresponding to a T-score of -0.5. Today's exam is compared to the prior of 12/8/2023. In the interim there has been an increase in L1-4 BMD of approximately 11% from the earlier value of 1.008 now up to the current 1.121 g/sq cm.

Trabecular bone score: The L1-4 TBS is 1.250 consistent with partially degraded bone microarchitecture.

Proximal Femur: For diagnostic purposes, the lowest T-score at the femoral neck or total proximal femur is used. For monitoring purposes, the mean total proximal femur BMD in grams/cm2 is used when possible. The left femoral neck BMD is 0.662 g/sq cm corresponding to a T-score of -2.7. Today's exam is compared to the prior of 12/8/2023. In the interim there has been no change in mean total hip BMD.

Lateral Vertebral Fracture Assessment (VFA): The thoracolumbar spine from T8-L4 is adequately visualized for interpretation. No moderate or severe vertebral fractures are seen."

I guess I'll be looking at another infusion in August 2025. I hope the side effects are less. I'm also on .0375 twice weekly E-2 patches and do a lot of walking using walking poles as well as stationary bike riding.

lot to read so I gather you have marked improvement right and thus will get another injection next year? I only ask cause I have osteopenia and my mo put me on Reclast so I have to wait for next bone density in august 2025 and hoping for improvement. Congrats if it’s working and I hope the same for me as I do the walking with poles and weight training as well
