My husband suffered so so badly with treatment R223 stopped by MDT after 4th treatment April 2024, CT scan showed progression of disease in bones and had severe pain after 3rd treatment.
An article I read after the 4th treatment said that a PET can identify those that would NOT benefit from R223. Asked the consultant why this was not done, no funding for PET Scans, how short sighted considering cost of treatment and care support needed since and no QOL
My husband suffered so so badly with pain since then, diseased spiralled quickly, frequent oncology hospital visits and required blood transfusion for anaemia Hb66
Latterly I nursed him at home, under supervision of hospice Homecare, still in continual pain although had patches and liquid morphine and nerve medication, the pain spiked through and the side effects of medication were bad, hallucinations bad dreams, anxiety attacks, loss of appetite, lost a lot of weight, loss of mobility.
Had to call Shrop doc over last week, diagnosed sepsis, high temperature difficulty breathing. Tony up to then still thought he could fight this disease with treatment and I didn’t want to take away his hope, but now after a conversation with one of the nurses he talked about dying and leaving me and the good life we’d had.
The last 3 days of his life he was transferred to the Hospice which I can only praise, he had his own private room and was looked after so well and we had a family room to be able to have some sleep in turns. I can only praise the Doctors, nurses care staff and volunteers; I was allowed to be his wife again and not his carer.
My lovely husband died on the 8th October with his family by his side.
I will miss him so much, my husband of 52 years, my friend, my sole mate, but now thankfully free from pain and further suffering.
