Has anyone suffered from eyesight degradation on ADT?

I am on Orgovyx and Xtandi since June. I can't say if it is related to one of those drugs but for the past few weeks it feels like my eyesight is declining.

At first I thought it was because I was due for a new pair of glasses so I had some made but it still does not feel right at times.

I keep flipping between my old and new glasses and while at times they are both ok, on other occasions I feel like anything that is not perfectly in front of me is blurry.

I would blame my new glasses but I experience this with the old ones that were just fine until just a few weeks ago.

I know that hormone blockers are making us age prematurely so maybe that is the issue but I do not recall having read any post about side effects on the eyesight.

I have not. Been on Xtandi and recently added Orgovyx (2 weeks ago). I haven't noticed too much difference between mono-Eligard, mono-Xtandi and now Orgovyx and Xtandi. Are you drinking enough? Maybe some dehydration but that's shooting from the hip.

If ADT can influence thyroid function, then it could influence your eyesight. I've had changes in my glasses RX after thyroid med changes, FWIW. Iodine has helped my thyroid function, YMMV. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/150....

My eye sight was declining, went on the Budwig diet ( because of cancer),of using flax oil with cottage cheese and Chia seeds, with Spirilina sea weed, little honey and blueberries.I know, it looks gross, but I have it for breakfeast each day, feel great, and my eyesight has noticeably improved.

If you look up these ingredents, most of them have compounds known to help your eyes. Also very healthy and anti inflammatory characterestics.

I honestly can't believe the improvement to my eye sight, but it has definitely improved.

Thanks RickyFish Mascoytch, i have . I've not heard of the diet but will check it out. Masochist, I have noticed an inability to focus my eyesight at times, but it is not consistent. I am on Zytiga.

My eyesight has deciled since starting ADT. I don't have an eye exam until the end of the month so not sure where to put the blame. Could just be an age thing but never have had much change until now.

I went for new glasses and was referred to an eye specialist. Growth on the macular was the problem. Growth removed, new lense added, bank account emptied and visionmuch better. No idea if it is related to ADT.

It was one of the reasons I stopped Xtandi. It's listed as an extreme side effect for it on the literature that comes in the box. It just did not agree me so I went back on Zytiga instead.

Had the same , especially with reading. Stopped with Xtandi after 6 years because it wasn’t working anymore. A few months after the last pills I could do away with my reading glasses.

Amazing and encouraging that it can be reversed

See (emphasis on see) a good Ophthalmologist. Don't be surprised if he/she keeps repeating "better or worse" during your exam. It's a habit they can't break......(probably during sex).

I am on dutasteride. It seems to cause dry-eye.

Me, too. I complained about feeling pressure in my left eye. The optometrist said it was dry eye and the pressure was from the weight of my eyelid on my eye without the normal lubrication. Using lots of eyedrops, but still feels the same to me.

I've seen ads on TV lately for Xiidra, for dry eyes. I wonder if that could be a remedy.

My Orogvyx treatment (poisoning?) started ib February 29, 2024. I've been through SBRT, a group of other medicines including Tamsulosin for my urination system. I stopped the Tamsulosin about a month ago because of the dizziness, striking muscle and joint pain, and general disturbances. Urination is only slightly slower, but the rest of me is greatly improved.

To your question, I seem to be encountering increased side effects of the Orgovyx, and possibly related vision deterioration. I am not sure what is causing it but my near-distance vision with my no-line progressive lenses is significantly worse. I'm getting new spectacles this week. We will see.

Fir me, the effect is mild and may or may not be related. It is definitely present.

Please give us an update once you have them.

I now believe my eyesight watering is from COVID-19, that I got starting last Friday night, September 14. I don't need this but it seems to be a mild case.

I have been on leuprolide since the end of December. I had a new eye exam and prescription the end of May this year and my vision was great. I started getting fuzzy after starting Xtandi.

I saw in your bio that you began Xtandi in late June just like I did. So we basically began having vision issues in a matter of weeks after Xtandi. I know its anecdotal but it leads me to think that the culprit is more likely to be Xtandi than Orgovix which I had begun to take at the start of June.

Mascouche, funny you should mention this because I have also experienced a significant degradation in eyesight. I’m 72 as of this year, so age could definitely be a factor. I’ve been on Orgovyx for 8 months. I don’t blame Orgo as much as the high blood pressure I experienced (because of Orgo) that went untreated for 6 months. Otherwise, I think I would have been find. Like you, I’ve been through the eyeglasses issues to no avail. Now that I’m on BP meds and feel 100% better, I’ll start over next year with a new eye exam.

When I wrote this post originally, I was not sure which of the two drugs might be giving me issues with my sight since they were both new to me. This update is to say that I am now fairly certain that my sight issues are related to Xtandi.

I was taking 4 x 40mg (so 160mg) of Xtandi when I started it in late June. In late August I had cut the dose in half, so 2 x 40mg in order to remain functional. That worked with regards to being more functional but my PSA went up some. My eye sight got a little better but so gradually that I am not sure I noticed when at what moment it got better.

When I met my MO on Oct 16, my PSA was 0.45, higher than it had been in August where it was 0.34. He suggested that I try taking 3 x 40mg to see if I would tolerate it better and still bring my PSA down.

Because I had hurt my back at the time and could not go to the gym to fight the fatigue, I waited until my back was better before upping the dose. So I've increased it to 3 pills on Nov 1.

We are now Nov 4 and anything I try to read is blurry once more after only 3 days. I had changed nothing with regards to Orgovyx, so I am now fairly convinced that the culprit is Xtandi.

I've been taking Xtandi since Nov 2023. Started with Eligard and 80 mg Xtandi. In January 2024 switched to 160g mono xtandi. August 2024 restart ADT with Orogovyx and 160 mg Xtandi. So, with basically all combinations covered, I haven't experienced vision issues. Like you, I'm a Software Developer, so I look at a screen for 8+ hours a day. The meds certainly effect everyone differently.
