My foley catheter has become extremly painful lever since I did a round of IMRT back in March. My urologist is reluctant to intervene but the catheter has become so painful that he is considering a TURP so that I can possibly rid myself of the foley. After doing a bit of reasearch I read an article talking about Holep being the new gold standard for BPH but my urologist has no clinical experience with the Holep procedure. Should I seek a urologist who does Holep or is the TURP just as effective ?

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate
Any kind of TURP after IMRT has high odds of incontinence. Can you get a Urolift?
Thanks for that. I would rather not have a TURP.I asked about Urolift and my urologist said that since there is still some trace of cancerous tissue in the prostate , the pins won't do the job properly. I have been reading about the HoLEP procedure and it is intriguing. It is not at all like the classic TURP. Its like an orange ( prostate ) being gutted of all its pulp leaving an empty shell. The pieces of prostate tissue get pushed into the bladder where it eventuallu gets sucked out by another instrument. The laser cauterizes the wound leading to less blood , less infection and quicker recovery. Sounds safer than a TURP as far as I'm concerned but I was hoping someone in this blog had the procedure and could give some feedback.
