My PCP is asking me to increase my protein intake; especially around breakfast time. Apparently, our normal diet needs a protein boost and I am wondering if I can augment my daily protein intake by one of the readily available protein powders. I know absolutely nothing about this and would appreciate sone good guidance.
Thank you,
Rob

I drink these protein shakes from Orgain, which I think is a good company. I subscribe and save a few bucks. Costco has a less expensive Orgain shake on sale from time to time. I don't really use protein powders any more but that may be a more cost-effective alternative for you.
You can buy protein powders in bag form from the many places that sell them to gym rats and so on. Your choice is animal protein (basically whey derived) or plant protein (like pea). Then your choice is unflavored (raw), vanilla, or a range of flavourings all of which apart from raw taste sweeter in some way. So the easiest thing to do is a scoop in a shake with ice, some skim milk and light yoghurt (both of which add more protein) and some frozen fruit. Blend it up. Add avacado for smoothness otherwise the protein powder can taste a little powdery in the shake. At least this is what I do. A little honey to your taste. Get one of those nutriblends and wash it out immediately after finishing otherwise it dries and is harder to wash. Beware of the calories though. Protein shakes are not zero calories of course.
I drink 60g protein shake everyday. I use Muscle Milk Genuine Protein Shake, Vanilla Creme, 11.16 Fl Oz Bottle, 12 Pack, 25g Protein, Zero Sugar, Calcium, Vitamins A, C & D, 5g Fiber, Energizing Snack, Workout Recovery, Packaging May Vary
Peanut Butter also has high content of Omega-6 and Polyunsaturated , both oils that play a role in the progression of prostate cancer, Omega-6 as a result of being pro-inflammatory in peanut butter, and Polyunsaturated oil as a result of its oxidation. Add to this, Agglutinins produced by peanut butter that raises levels of Interleukin-6, an inducer of major biological pathways for the development, growth, and progression of PCa.
Tip: Balance peanut butter with healthy nuts like Omega-3 rich Walnuts and Monoun- unsaturated nuts like Pecans and Macadamia. Or consume Omega-3 rich seafood in same meal.
I get mine from Truenutrition.com. I customize it so part whey (many choices), and part pea, pumpkin and rice protein. I add some green boosts, etc. For vets or subscription get a 10% discount. Key is get the protein. And if you buy a premixed, look at ingredients so dont have all the bad processed food additives that will kill you on their own.
A ot of protein powders and shakes do not have god nutritional combos for your condition. Too many sugars are a likely problem. I would look into speaking with a dietician or naturopath to explore which is right for you. There are some great quality collagen powders and pea proteins out there.
