Best source of protein(mostly plant based diet)

I'm looking at adding some animal protein to my diet to keep hemoglobin at reasonable levels and (hopefully) to reduce mood swings/irritability. The MO suggested having two eggs every other day. Please advise.

Tippler,

"two eggs every other day" - as opposed to one egg every day? LOL

"A large egg is said to contain 1 mg of iron and hence consumption of an egg everyday will help in fighting anemia." [1]

Many here will object to an egg solution because of the choline content. In fact, we mostly fail to take in the amount of choline we are said to need, & a daily egg should not push you into high levels. Choline is essential for health.

But I'm guessing that if your hemoglobin is low, that will be due to low testosterone, which is associated with a drop in red blood cells [RBCs]. RBCs contain the hemoglobin that carries oxygen. Unless you have a proven iron deficiency, I wouldn't worry about iron.

I am just about to have a light breakfast containing an egg from a pastured chicken. I can get a dozen eggs at the supermarket for 99 cents, but this egg cost me a whopping 50 cents! The chicken gets to eat bugs & greens & not just grain - & the egg will look & taste great.

Yes, I know about the egg lady, Erin Richman, & her studies that associate one egg a week with increased PCa mortality, but I don't believe it.

The anemia we get is related to low testosterone and aging. It is normocytic and normochromic and not related dietary protein intake.

There is some issue about egg protein for prostate cancer.

I think the choline is the bad part of it. poshea probably has the exact details on this. Patrick, can you chime in?

But basically, Like corn-fed beef, not such a good idea for prostate cancer patients.... at least not a lot of it.

I found a nice source of heavy metal free protein powder (consumer reports did a battery of purity testing about 12 months ago). It is made in Europe where they still believe in science and think pure and unadulterated food is good public policy.

I add it to my cereal every morning to get most of my daily protein at breakfast.

Three eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. You guys are really making me hungry. Just wish there was someone around here that had enough ambition to cook breakfast. As always, do not do as I do. I am obviously suicidal.
