Twelve years into my Prostate Cancer journey - now have metastasis (primarily in L3 vertebrae).
Has anyone had experience re travel insurance (I’m in the UK) as the obvious Travel Insurance Companies don’t want to know. I’m looking to travel worldwide.
any advice/recommendations would be very welcome

I'm in the UK with metastatic advanced prostate cancer. I've always used insurancewith.comYou need to have every medication that you take to hand plus other health information. Takes under 30 minutes to do online but have been insured for Australia, NZ, Qatar, Turkey by them. They are specialists.
I'll second this. The company was founded by a nurse with breast cancer who was frustrated by the lack of affordable travel insurance. The questions asked are VERY detailed, and demonstrate real knowledge of PCa in particular. Also very affordable - no need to look anywhere else to enjoy complete peace of mind that you're fully covered.
Thanks! I must stress this is the UK though. I guess the rules must be similar in the US. If you don't declare an illness and get sick, you could find yourself in all sorts of trouble.
Wow!! UK way different than US if I am reading this right. I use travel insurance for most of my trips, just buy it and go. Was planning a trip to Costa Rica and wife needed hernia surgery. Called insurance company and had my money refunded in 10 days
Surely you have to declare any serious pre existing conditions when purchasing travel insurance in the US?? That’s the issue here as many companies will then simply not cover you at all, exclude that condition or charge ££££££s
In the US in most cases, if you buy the insurance within a defined number of days (often 10 days but that's up to the insurance company) after booking the travel, then pre-existing conditions are covered.
It has never been an issue. I have traveled to Costa Rica for 6 years as well as some Caribbean countries without ever being asked. Even traveled during COVID,
Whatever you look at be sure you understand the exclusions in any policy. Check how they handle any pre-existing conditions. They tend to underwrite the policy when a claim is filed and then look to deny based on exclusions and pre-existing conditions.
Be careful. I’ve banked with NW for years. It’s in their small print that you need to update them re any new health conditions. They have then excluded my particular condition so don’t assume you’re covered please.
My son is a lawyer and handles thousands of "Denied Claims " -- Just research the history of ALL insurance companiies denying " MEANINGFUL- Medical Claims " . ( Big bucks )
Yes they will pay for chicken shit ( small cliams ) . However their 1st position on larger claims is to deny . Then you have to pay a " Personal Injury Lawyer " to fiight your case . Sometimes for years .
Been there - Done that .
On the T.V. and in the newspapers etc regular in Canada . Snowbirds owing hundreds of thousands of dollars for medical costs from a hospital stay in that NO HEALTHCARE COUNTRY CALLED -- THE GREAT U.S.A.
The richest country in the world with no healthcare .
The major issue in every presidential election -- GUNS , ABORTION & THE BORDER .
Never Healthcare .
I love Americans and the U.S..A. -- But why no healthcare .?
OK, just went to China on a long trip and bought travel health insurance (TVL INS)...here is the scoop that I found out and had to learn from the hard way. TNL INS does not cover 'pre existing conditions,' unless you pay off the policy within 20 days of purchasing you travel arrangements, i.e., air, cruise, train tickets...I did not know this. Had to jump thru hoops and buy a much more expensive LX policy that did cover me for pre exist conditions...
We have cancer! If something happens to us and its related to our cancer treatment, a bad reaction to medication, anything, its not covered! Heck, for must of us old fools PCa is just one of a number or existing conditions we have, so to not cover pre exist complications is an important 'detail!' Makes the entire TVL INS packet useless, in my opinion. So, look at the terms and conditions of your policy...there is a time limit for purchase of your complete TVL INS policy in order to assure all pre exist conditions are covered...
I finally used an IMG LX policy, which thankfully I did not have to use...but if you are outsider your national insurance cover area and God forbid something happens, the cost of TVL INS will be cheap in comparison to what it could cost to get you whole and get you home...TNX Rick
I can’t remember name of company we used, but we paid for our coverage within 20 days and preexisting conditions were covered. When you’re calling for quotes or on the website you can ask if this is available. Happy travels. We’re in the US.
I've purchased travel insurance here in the U.S. while traveling to Europe and elsewhere. Only issue maigjt be "Pre-existing" conditions. And the by definition in the policy exclusions was defined as any active injury sustained or active less than 30 days prior to travel. So it's an interesting place to be... If you're under treatment is your condition active? What if you suffer something that is not related and they try to make it related to your condition?
Insurance has a habit of denial first, then if you persist and are consistent, probably pay out.
Bottom line is to determine if the risk or insured or non is worth it. I think it is, and worry about it later if ever needed! Because I'm not gonna let it hold me back! Enjoy travel, enjoy life!
